Quiet, simple to operate

This washing machine is a no frills, traditional type of clothes washer. I appreciate the simplicity of operation. I like that the lid does not lock and the agitator does not beat up my clothes. The agitation cycle is very quiet. My clothes, bed sheets and towels have been coming out clean and the rinse/spin cycle seems to take a substantial amount of water out of the fabrics. The fill time is fairly quick as the flow of water into the wash basin is strong. The warm and hot settings never get very warm or hot at all. I have a hose connected to a nearby sink which I use to add hot water to the load when I want hotter water for the wash. The sensor in the machine causes the flow of water to stop when the appropriate amount of water is in the basin. I shut the hose off well before this happens. There are 3 adults, 2 teens, 2 dogs and a cat in the household. I wash at least 5 loads per week. I was able to wash my king sized quilt in the machine without any problems.

Not Happy-

Even at Ex.Lg. setting, only fills halfway. Have to manually hold knob to get adequate amount of water to wash clothes or only put in small load at at Ex Lg. setting. Energy saving is a misnomer.

Great Washer

I love this washer. It is quiet, cleans my clothes well, and really does seem to spin a lot of the water out of the clothing. I wanted a basic washer where I could set my own water levels and this is the perfect machine.

no washer today is he and gets your clothes clean

But given the choices out there, you aren't going to find any better than this one. All washers now are inefficient. I got this one thinking I could choose the water level and bypass all the he (high efficiency) stuff. But it only lets you fill it part way even on super level. So even though the drum is bigger you can't wash as many clothes as in an older washer if you want them all in the water. And it takes over an hour to do a regular wash -- sometimes an hour and a half if you want extra rinse. And this is energy efficient? The GOOD NEWS is I figured a way around it! And I wanted to let everybody know. If you wait until it starts the wash cycle, this one doesn't lock, so you can add extra buckets of water and trick the machine! So been doing laundry for 45 years and here it is 2015 and for the life of this washer I will be hauling buckets of water from the sink to fill it. Thanks government regulations.

Old School

Had to replace our 25 year washer. Learned lot about about washers while shopping for a new washer. This GE washer is for an "Old School" consumer like me. No bells and whistles, no special soap etc. This washer has the similar features as my previous 25 year washer.

I bought this to replace a similar GE washer that i had for 16+ years without a single problem. The transmission went( probably due to my kids overloading it!) chose asimilar model with old time knobs and agitator... Because it works just fine!

PROBLEMATIC

Even when distributing the laundry evenly throughout the washer, once the washer begins its washing cycle, the machine shakes and sounds like a plane taking off. The washer began leaking profusely out the bottom of the machine after only 5 months of use. The leak caused a flood of water in the laundry room and connecting living area. Fortunately, I have tile and I noticed the leak before it got too high. The only loss was a surge protector that was shorted out by water, about 2 hours of mopping up water, and a little shock and agitation when I was electrocuted when I attempted to save the surge protector out of the water. However, I'm happy to report that the washer is under warranty for a year from the date of installation and a service technician is coming out tomorrow to repair the washer. Hopefully the technician can get it fixed promptly so we can do laundry at home again. I can report back
