I will never go back to a traditional razor after using this product
on June 29, 2014

I'm an African American Male who has been using this product for 7 months. Before using this product I have been shaving with a traditional razor for years. I was afraid of electric razors because I thought they were not made for African American skin type. I visited my cousin and we were going out for some drinks and before he left he pulled out his electric razor which was this product, dry shaved his head bald and face in a matter of minutes. I was floored. He felt no irritation no discomfort.
The last time I used a traditional razor to shave my head bald and face I cut myself for the umpteenth time. I was sick of it. My wife and I did some research on the web after I told her about my cousin. When we came across this product I was sold on the fact that I could still use my shaving jell. I still was afraid to dry shave my face. I bought the product and read the owner's manual. I was even more impressed that the owner's manual advised that I might not get as smooth a shave the first time using. Keep using daily for 21 days in which my face would be used to the new shaving system. I dry shaved my head bald and wet shaved my face. 5 DAYS not 21 DAYS my face and hair were use to the new system. A month later this African American Male was DRY SHAVING his face everyday!!!!!! I love this product. Shaving has become my favorite activity in my morning routine. The RAZOR bumps on my neck from using a traditional razor have since cleared. My skin on my neck and face is clear as glass. My only regret is that I didn't discover this sooner. I would have saved a lot of money on shaving cream and traditional razors. I apologize for the long review but it was the only way to make this point.
Pros: long battery life, 1hour charging time, quick charge for 5 minute shave, wet or dry
Cons: i wish i had discovered this 20 years ago.

Total disappointment

I have used Norelco shavers since forever, and have always been more than satisfied with their quality and great shave .
Recently decided it was time to replace my (approximately) 10 yr. old Norelco shaver and purchased a new Norelco 4400. From the initial usage, I could tell a definitive difference from old to new, the new (shaver) was a total disappointment in its ability to provide a good close shave.
After using it four times, and trying to mentally talk myself into keeping it, I gave up and returned it to the store.
Unfortunately in today's age, newer does not mean better and this episode has definitely confirmed that prognosis. So, here I am, again (still) using my old Norelco shaver, but at least getting what I would deem as a very good Norelco shave.
Pros: i like the style very comfortable to hold.
Cons: absolutely terrible shave!!

Provides a quick, close shave

I've used Norelco razors for 25 years. My previous model was very disappointing, quit working within a year. I called customer service, they sent me this current model under warranty, and I'm extremely happy-my faith is restored! It feels good in my hand, shaves very close, and the charge lasts longer than is advertised.
One complaint-the button to pop open the heads can be pushed inadvertantly when just handling the razor, cleaning out the chamber when and where you didn't want to. Maybe could be recessed a little more? Also, kudos to customer service!! Very pleasant, responsive and they solved my problem!
I am once again an enthusiastic, loyal Norelco user.
Pros: smartpivot heads are great

Shaver charging cord has great length. Easy to use. Gives a great shave dry or wet. Grip is super comfortable. Nice protective cover for shave heads. Would give 5 stars if it wasn't so bulky. Trimmer pops up and is great for sideburns and mustache trimming. Highly recommend.

New version of a faithful friend

I've been using electric shavers since my father's Schick some decades ago, and most have been Norelcos. Like my previous version, the 810 gives a close and comfortable shave around all nooks and crannies. One-hour charging is a plus and the 3-minute Quick Charge negates the need for corded operation. Another upgrade is the low-battery warning light which its predecesor lacked.
I wanted a shaver without a charging stand and nowhere in online descriptions or blogs was I able to make that determination until I unwrapped the package...it, happily, has no stand so I can store all in a drawer and leave my vanity top clear. I also got mixed information from the Norelco online chat where I tried to clear-up another confusing issue. Some Norelco shavers specify Comfort Cut heads, while others, like the more-expensive 810, use Dual Precision heads. The heads appear slightly different, yet both models use the same HQ8 Dual Precision replacement heads. It seems that you replace all such shaver heads with the HQ8s.
My former Norelco only lasted only 5 years or so and required two sets of replacement heads. The LI batteries on the 810 should do better.
Here's a cleaning tip which worked well on similar models: After opening the lid and rinsing the heads & whisker chamber, close the lid, turn on the shaver and briefly rinse while running. This clears debris from beneath the cutters, no dis-assembly and scraping of gunk required. The manual advises against same, but, since the device is aquatic, I can see no reason not to.
My former shaver of similar design also loosened one of the three little power nodes which engage the shaving heads...sorta sprung out a bit and wobbled. It continued to work okay, but I occasionally had to adjust the part. I don't think I bumped anything, but I'll be careful just the same with this one.
Pros: good performance, many shavers per charge, rinse to clean, improved batteries, low-battery indicator, no need for charging stand, quick charge, 1-hour full charge, comfortable to hold
Cons: expensive replacement heads

Pulls the hair out
on August 6, 2014

I bought razor (my third or fourth Philips in almost twenty years) from an outlet store as it was on sale and cheap. While my old shaver still worked, it was from another country and no longer charged so I wanted a new one.
On my very first use of my cheap shaver I didn't make it through a single session as it was pulling the hair out rather than cutting it so I finished the job with my old shaver. I tried another time on shorter hair, thinking maybe it was the length of the hair that was the issue, but it did not make a difference - it still pulled rather than cut.
I am returning this razor today in hope of exchanging it for a better model. Unfortunately, you really do get what you pay for and it has nothing to do with my shaving technique as I have not encountered this problem with any of the other previous Philips electric shavers I have owned.
Pros: price
Cons: pulls hair

Smooth shave and long battery life

The product works great. I charged it fully when I received and haven't had to charge it yet after 4 weeks of daily shaving. The quick charge will be very effective to prevent any down time.
The tilting head helps to get clean shave in hard to reach neck and chin areas. Much better than my last Norelco shaver with a fixed head that stopped working after 12 years.
The design is smooth and modern with grooves and ribs to make holding easier.
The first shaver I received had some issues with the battery. I called Noreclo customer service. They were very courteous and quickly sent out a replacement. I was happy with their rapid response and resolution.
Pros: very long battery life, clean shave in hard to reach places like neck and
Cons: plain looking design

My search is over!
on June 19, 2016

I have been searching for an electric shaver that works with my hair type for some time. My search is finally over. I normally have problems with ingrown hairs and used to use a safety razor. However, I really wanted to shorten and simplify my morning routine and switch to electric. I tried a couple different types of highly recommended foil types, but they caused me all sorts of irritations and they couldn't get my patches of flat hairs. Then I recently stumbled upon the Philips Norelco AT790 that was designed for people that suffer with ingrown hairs. I've been impressed since day one. I assumed I would have to endure a period of irritation, but for my face... instant success. After shaving I do rub on a little balm and I'm good to go. My only wish is that Philips would use this type of gentle cut blades on a more advance type of shaver besides the AT790. But for now, I'm extremely happy and telling family and friends about my great find.
Pros: irritation free shaving, excellent battery life, easy to clean
Cons: only model that uses gentle cut blades.
