Good Purchase

I have owned and operated CANON products for nearly 30 years. Starting with the CANON A-1. I purchased the 5d Mk II as a upgrade to the CANON 40d. I have owned the 5d MkII for nearly a year now. I am extremely pleased with the quality of the build and with the exceptional image quality. Coupled with the 16 -35mm L lens I have had absolutey no issues at all. I have installed all three firmware upgrades, plus changed the focusing screen. And the camera continues to perfom at or above my expectations.
Pros: good battery life, Nice features/settings, Quick Start-up time, excellent image quality, Superior build quality, Bright LCD, Solid Operation, Simple controls/menu

I reviewed the 5d Mark II earlier. I have to say that after purchasing the camera body in December 2008 my photography took off. I have nothing but fantastic feelings for this product. My photos with the prime L lenses are superb. I am an amateur and do photography for a hobby. I have no doubt that if I wanted to expand my horizons and go pro that this is the camera to go with. I am so pleased with the results that I continually strive to learn how to use to use it on a daily basis. It works for weddings, portraits and for whatever you want it to do. I found out that the more you learn about the capabilities of this camera will amaze you. The only limits you face are yourself. So if you have made the plunge and invested in this camera, take the time to learn all you can about how to use it and you will not be sorry. I truly love the way it can take whatever available light to produce stunning photos. Finally, I prefer the 24-70 mm 2.8L lense to the 24-105. My preference that I have never regretted.
Pros: the best full frame camera there is!
Cons: none

So Glad I Went For It!

After much deliberation and research, I replaced my Rebel T1i with the 5D Mark II. I know a new 5D is just around the corner, and I am usually all about the latest and greatest. However, the image quality with this camera is outstanding, along with the high ISO and lack of noise. The color, the contrast, the features are all outstanding. I know this camera will give me the results I desire for many years to come, no matter what newer model is released. I have a lot to learn and this camera will allow me to grow into it for a very long time.
Pros: very intuitive, great iq, iso performance, outstanding results, easy enough for beginners, advanced enough for pros

I bought this camera as an update to my 5D only to get the ability to shoot video. I assumed since it was a pro camera that I would have some control when shooting video. OOPS I did however get a bit of control when I got a set of zeiss primes which I plan to use on my scarlet when it comes out.
Overall this is a great still camera with a great trick of shooting good video under it's sleeve. I would hesitate to take this camera out and use in front of my clients just yet to shoot a commercial.
Pros: Superior build quality, excellent image quality, quiet, Solid Operation, Lightweight/Portable, good battery life
Cons: no manual control, 30p only, odd shutter angles in video mode

EOS 5D Mark II

I've had the 5D Mark II for a litle over a month now and I actually find myself using it more than my 1D MK II n. What I really love about the camera is the full frame 21 MP images it grabs which are second to none. Great color and detail. I was also sold on the camera the first time I saw Vincent LaForet's amazing video that he did with a pre-release version of the 5DII.
In use the camera is quite comfortable to hold and I added the extended battery pack for better balance and handling. I find the batteries to last and last, but they should considering the difficulty to find them and the high cost.
I am a videomaker and really love the HD feature, although others may find this less enticing. In use, it isn't really intended to be a video camera and there are some issues, but the quality of the video is outstanding. I have noticed one small problem, if there is even the smallest amount of dust on the sensor, it won't show on the still images, but is very apparent on the HD video. I've taken to cleaning the sensor and blowing out the camera each time before taking videos to make sure the dust won't ruin my takes.
Highly recommended camera for event, landscape, and portrait photographers. Not so much for sports and nature due to the slower focusing capabilities and the slow (3.9fps) rapid fire mode.
Pros: excellent image quality, Bright LCD, Nice features/settings, quiet, Quick Start-up time, Solid Operation, Lightweight/Portable, good battery life, hd video
Cons: Missing features/settings, old focus system, expensive batteries

Close to Perfect

I love this camera -- but I really, really wish it would autofocus at f8 so I could use my 100-400mm lens with 1.4 teleconverter. I was thinking of purchasing the 400mm f4 DO IS lens when I saw Art Wolfe using it with a 2x teleconverter. That looked like a perfect choice for wildlife photography. But then I learned that the 2x teleconverter combination will only autofocus on the 1Ds. Why? I won't get the 1Ds because it's too heavy for me - and I don't want to carry a huge telephoto lens either. The 5D Mark II appeals to people who want lightweight cameras and lenses -- therefore it would be perfect if we could use a teleconverter to save weight too. Canon - please fix this. Thank you!
Pros: Superior build quality, excellent image quality, Bright LCD, Nice features/settings, quiet, Quick Start-up time, Solid Operation, easy to use, Lightweight/Portable, good battery life
Cons: can't autofocus with teleconverter at f8

Exceeded My Expectations

This camera has been used for photojournalism, fine art photography, landscapes and catalog work for museums and also in the studio for portraiture. It has met and exceeded my expectations. At first, it took me awhile to figure out the best workflow with this camera as there are so many choices, so my appreciation has increased over the year that I've had this camera. Its an all-around performer.
Pros: accurate focus, ease of use, accurate exposure, extensive pro features
Cons: squeeky cf card door
