Finally, an affordable 20MP+ FF camera

It's been a long time coming for a camera manufacturer to deliver a product quite like the 5D MK2 in this price range. It's built well, has an amazing full frame sensor and shoots in really low light with outstanding results. Sure the video is not 24 fps and it skips rows in scaling down to its HD 1080p rez and all that. To me, the video is not the reason I purchased the camera in the first place, so it's only a welcome addition. I use the 5D MK2 with adapted Leica R series lenses and the results are nothing short of fabulous. This camera is a keeper.
Pros: Superior build quality, excellent image quality, Bright LCD, Nice features/settings, Quick Start-up time, Solid Operation, easy to use, good battery life
Cons: noisy, could use more advanced controls

Great Product

The battery life is a bit short I can manage one photoshoot probably about 4 hours . I replaced a canon D1 because the camera was too heavy to keep carrying around. I do not like that Raw does not open directly in Photoshop but through the canon software one more task to do, and when processing many photos can become a chore. Also the camera only uses sRGB. The quality of this product is very good and overall is a very good buy
Pros: Superior build quality, excellent image quality, Bright LCD, Simple controls/menu, Nice features/settings, quiet, Quick Start-up time, Solid Operation, easy to use, Lightweight/Portable
Cons: wiil not directly open in photoshop

Darn Good Upgrade!

Great middle range DSLR. Especially for the money. The Chip upgrade and the Screen upgrade are the real useful news. The 1080P output is a hoot but the form factor will require the user to buy a SteadyCam, a Gyro and/or a fluid head to put the vid feature to much use. The 1DsMkIII is still the "real camera" in the Canon line. Now when it gets the bigger and better screen I'll be in hog heaven!
Pros: excellent image quality, Bright LCD, Simple controls/menu, Nice features/settings, Quick Start-up time, Solid Operation, easy to use, Lightweight/Portable, good battery life

Best DSLR I've owned

I have used the 5DMkII only four times but for a total of just under 800 exposures. First with a EF70-200mm f/2.8L outdoors at the beach with light shifting from bright sunlight to cloudy-bright to shade, spot metering and AWB. The results were great, uniform and needing minimal Photoshopping besides Smart Sharpening. Second on a lanai in open shade with a EF24-105 f/4L and 580EX-II Speedlite as fill. Again spot metering and AWB. Third and fourth:- Interior w/ EF24-105 f/4L and 580EX-II bounced This is the first of my Canon DSLR's from D30 to 40D that has delivered absolutely consistent uniform results with the flash fill. I was very pleasantly surprised that again I had nothing to do on the bulk of the shots but sharpening in Camera Raw. In all cases the white balance was more uniform than with any DSLR I've had. I started on Canon SLRs in 1964 with the Pellix and upgraded from time to time (including the 1D) and this one beats them all.
Pros: Superior build quality, excellent image quality, Bright LCD, quiet, easy to use, good battery life, consistency
Cons: Complicated controls/menu

twice as sharp!

The new Canon EOS 5D Mark ll is twice as sharp as the old 5D. You can place two photos next to each other in Photoshop and REALLY tell the difference.
The big LCD screen is fantastic, and shows the "blinking hightlights" in an enlarged format, which are now much easier to see than with the old 5D.
The Mk ll seem to have a greater range and control over the highlights. Shadows are pure and black.
ISO 800 is a standard speed for people/event photos for me.
ISO 25,000 is fun, but 12,600 is much better, and is perfectly acceptable under many circumstances.
"Live View" is very handy, but you can't use a flash during live view. Live view can be used as a "mirror up" mode.
The Highlight sensitivity compensation can only work on ISO 200 or higher!
The movies this thing makes are astounding, but the autofocus does not work during movie capture. Manual focus only, and the Image Stabilization does not work during movie capture.
The Mk ll feels a little more solid than the old 5D.
Pros: Superior build quality, excellent image quality, Bright LCD, Nice features/settings, quiet, Quick Start-up time, Solid Operation, good battery life

The 5D Mark II is my camera of choice. I appreciate all the benefits packed into a camera that doesn't break ones wrist when actively shooting from various angles and sometimes one-handed. The resolution is superb and the image size is great for my industry - stock photography. eyecrave photography

Superior quality camera

I didn't think it was possible to improve on the 5D but Canon has hit a homerun with the new 5D MarkII. I own several Canon bodies but this is probably the best all around unit. The overall performance is amazing with consistently outstanding focusing capabilties with its strength being its low light capacities; the lack of noise at high ISOs is incredible, giving the camera amazing range in a tremendous variety of shooting conditions; great value for the money, well worth the price!!
Pros: Superior build quality, excellent image quality, Bright LCD, Simple controls/menu, Nice features/settings, quiet, Quick Start-up time, Solid Operation, easy to use, good battery life
