5d mark ii could be better
on April 28, 2009

I had high expectations from the 5d mark ii but am somewhat disappointed in the performance. It lacks some features that some other brands have. You have to lock up the mirror for live view. When shooting video there is a lot of background noise from the relay in the camera. The low light performance is not consistent. The video is nice in a noisy environment but an external mic is necessary for better audio. The 21 mp still images are good but I expected clearer pictures. It shoots great pictures in bright sunlight. I wish the image stabilization was in the camera instead of the lense. The overall camera is very good but the price is steep. I would like to see a change in the live view system.
Pros: Nice features/settings, Solid Operation, easy to use
Cons: Missing features/settings, noisy, noisy with video mode
I would recommend this to a friend!

Friends are raving

Got the camera for Father's Day/Birthday and I was shocked at the photos. I have always used point and shoots, but wanted a really good HD video camera. My wife showed me the article about House using this DSLR for the last episode, and I decided to give it a shot. My friends and family LOVE, LOVE, LOVE the photos I take on this camera. I use the 24-105mm zoom and it is incredible. The depth of the shots compared to the point and shoots have me taking way more photos than videos and I am a video guy. I have taken over 3000 photos with it since June. So how long does the shutter last?
Pros: amazes friends, beautiful photos, easy to use
Cons: video auto-focus

My new 5DMII out of the box

I'm no pro but recently at a sporting event it became clear we needed to move up the line. I was astonished with the 5DMII unit. We've got a long way to go with it but out of the box it made a difference from our prior Canon (XSI). Would recommend this unit! (Despite the date - No Fooling!)
Pros: Superior build quality, excellent image quality, Bright LCD, Nice features/settings, Quick Start-up time
Cons: Complicated controls/menu
I would recommend this to a friend!

This is one the best camera I used doing professional work. Full frame does increase the level of the image; but knowledge of the usage of the camera will play a major role to obtain outstanding photographs. With a EF lens this camera has produce outstanding photographs so I am thinking what the photographs will look like if I used the L-series lens.
Pros: good battery life, quiet, Nice features/settings, Quick Start-up time, excellent image quality, Superior build quality, Bright LCD, Solid Operation, Lightweight/Portable
Cons: Difficult to use, Complicated controls/menu
I would recommend this to a friend!

Where's The Flash?
on February 26, 2009

OK, I understand this camera is leaning more towards the advanced amateur / professional user, and I understand that these users are almost always going to own at least one high-end flash unit. But that's still not a good enough reason in my opinion to leave out a built-in flash. Even professionals have occassions when they just need a small fill-flash to make the scene and they don't want to run back to their bag to strap on a tower of power to do it. And for those of us that do a lot of hiking / backpacking in remote regions for wildlife photography, carrying an extra 2 lb tower for a flash unit is not a good use of backpack space when it's only used on rare occassions. But when you need a flash, you need it, and to be left without one is not an option, so what to do? I would rate this camera a full five stars and recommend it to anyone if not for the missing flash. Without it, it's still a good camera, but I couldn't honestly recommend it to anyone other than a studio photographer.
Pros: Superior build quality, excellent image quality, Bright LCD, Solid Operation, good battery life, hd video available
Cons: Missing features/settings
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

CANON POWERSHOT SX520 HS

First let me say that the service was superior; I got my camera within 2 days!
Also: I LOVE the features on this camera and it's ease of use.
The only thing I'm not satisfied with is the fact that I haven't even had it a month and the lens quit working so I have to send it clear across the country for repairs so I'll have to go through camera withdrawals for approximately 2 weeks until I get it back. If the camera was older, I'd give it a higher rating...but it's practically brand new and already has to be sent in for a manufacture error.
Other than that...It's a really GREAT camera!

Noisy, noisy and noisy.

Purchased 11/09. Returned for warranty service 9/10. Photos became progressively noisy, even in bright light and low ISO. After service, photo quality was better, but degraded over time. I think every camera in the world takes better pictures. My G12 and my XSi are far superior to my 5D Mark II. Other problems: AF is horribly slow in AI Servo. Buttons don't always work. Canon has a long way to go to make this a good camera.
Pros: good battery life, quiet, Superior build quality
Cons: Poor image quality, Complicated controls/menu
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

Have had this camera for about 6 months now and feel the need to review it.
Simply put the camera is a sub par. sensor reads way to blue and honestly their are too many pixels crammed in resulting in what looks like a corrupt file due to the pixilation.
If your a doctor or dentist looking for a higher end camera thats full frame i'd honestly suggest going with 1ds mark ii over this. Or if you don't really care about overall quality go with it.
The only positive note i have for this camera is that it's video is decent. I only wish that it went up to 60 fps or 90 fps.
Lastly button features and menu control. Its terrible plain and simple transitioning from the 1d series to this was a mistake. I'm hanging up the camera and going back to the 1ds mark II until i can afford the 1d mark iv which i've used extensively and is one heck of an impressive camera.
Cons: Shaky operation, Missing features/settings, Poor image quality, Poor build quality, noisy
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.
