First off, this camera is amazing right out of the box. I received this as a graduation present, and I instantly experimented with the video feature. The camera shoots excellent images. Except I need to buy IR filters for my lenses.. But that is not a problem with the camera.
I use the video feature more than actual stills for work. It has pretty good video quality but I wish there would be a firmware update that allows the user to change the frame-rate ( 24p, 30p, 60i) etc. Hopefully in the future, but knowing Canon, they will use it as a marketing feature in one of their newer cameras. (7D) :-(
For a full-frame camera, the price could not be better. It is affordable for consumers, prosumers, and professionals..
The FPS is the only drawback.... Just a little too slow
Pros: Superior build quality, excellent image quality
Cons: noisy, Short battery life
I would recommend this to a friend!

I've been a canon user for years since the first 1ds full frame sensor came out, I still have this camera. I bought the 5d mark11 because I thought is was time for a new camera and I've heard that is was great at higher iso's, and it is. But I can not understand why canon would put such a narrow oblong triangle focus points. I am so frustrated with this when I'm shooting that I want to throw the camera away. When shooting people I have to focus and recompose to the degree that I'm loosing a great number of images to them not being sharp. The files on the eos-1ds is much sharper and I have more focusing points toward the edge of my frame. It's a good semi professional camera. I will probably have to purchase a 1ds-mark 111 to get that feature back, of course.
Pros: good battery life, Bright LCD
Cons: Missing features/settings
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

I have been shooting with Canon EOS cameras and professional video cameras for years. This camera is a step in the right direction (ie large format MOS sensor for HD) but the lack of professional video features hobbles its use in the new world where high-end photography sometimes needs high-end video. To solve the problems the following should be added to the build: 1. Manual control of shutter, ISO,.and aperature during video. An optional external controller with followfocus style dials for fine control. 2. Follow industry trends and allow recording directly into FCPHD native format for instant editing. 3. Allow for two balanced audio inputs (this could be in an accessory bottom for the camera. 4. An optional HD LCD for accurate focus during video 5. Permit variable frame rate recording.

Great Camera. IDs Mark III picture quality at less than half the price what more could you ask for....oh that's right, Full Manual control of the video mode. This camera will attract more serious video enthusiast if it had that, as well as make us current owners very happy. If it is ever added in firmware please let me know so I can give this camera 5 stars all around. But as a still camera this thing ROCKS!
Pros: Superior build quality, excellent image quality, Bright LCD, Simple controls/menu, Nice features/settings, quiet, Quick Start-up time, Solid Operation, easy to use, Lightweight/Portable, good battery life, clean high iso, even the noise is pretty, the chicks dig it

Great full frame camera with superior HD video capability. Unfortunately, the shutter speed is sub-par and needs to be faster, for the money spend for that camera.
Pros: good battery life, Nice features/settings, excellent image quality, Superior build quality, Lightweight/Portable, full frame sensor, superior video quality, great low light video capability
Cons: Shaky operation, noisy, Difficult to use, Slow Start-up time, shutter speed too slow, slow auto focus even with fast l-lenses

Canon's 5D MarkII - "Has Taken Center Stage"

Canon has taken center stage with the 5d2. The image quality of my photos, which are generally portraits, nature and landscape photography are absolutely gorgeous.
The user interface is typical of Canon, with no hidden menus to fuss or forget and the LCD screen is sharp as a tack.
Although, some professionals and enthusiasts might disagree, but I feel that a built-in-flash module would have been a nice added feature; in low light situations attaching a speed light is not always practical or convenient.
Lastly, to be able to benefit the most from a camera of this caliber, you need to attach quality lenses.
Pros: Superior build quality, excellent image quality, Bright LCD, Simple controls/menu, Nice features/settings, Quick Start-up time, Solid Operation, easy to use
Cons: no flash
