A Strong Purchase, but NOT Perfect

I have owned this for almost two weeks. Most features worked as expected. However, I am frustrated with the way focusing works. I expected to be able to move the focus point while still being able to see through the viewfinder. I can't. I have to switch to Live View and use the rear viewfinder.
Also, I now just this morning suddenly have tiny black dots that appear on a white background (lit table). I am running 2.0.4., so it didn't fix the issue in my opinion. I did not see these until I began shooting through a lit table (shooting jewelry).
And yes the camera is a little too slow (3.9) - which I expected due to reviews.
Overall the camera is capable of great photos, but there are some issues for sure. I am slightly disappointed after spending so much money. I expected 5 star performance across the board. Certainly didn't expect the focusing issues when you want to focus on something other than what is in the center of the photo. I wanted to be able to move the 9 pts. anywhere on the screen. Again, I can do this only in Live View and changing some of the custom settings. A pain.
Pros: good battery life, Quick Start-up time, Superior build quality, Bright LCD, Simple controls/menu
Cons: Shaky operation, Missing features/settings, Complicated controls/menu

Why is Auto ISO fixed at 400 in Manual mode?

So good so far, I only just got my 5DMK2, however why in the world is the Auto ISO setting fixed at ISO 400 in Manual mode? It completely destroys the usefulness of having an Auto ISO setting for those who primarily shoot Manual (like myself). The Auto ISO setting was one of the things I was really excited about. And now it's just a disappointment. Canon should fix this through firmware upgrades.
Pros: excellent image quality, Bright LCD, Simple controls/menu, Nice features/settings, easy to use
Cons: Missing features/settings

I pre-ordered my 5D-MarkII. and received it in Nov. '09. With a camera this nice it is only reasonable to use L- lenses. I am continuely amazed at the quality of the photos I bring every time go out shooting.
The photos are so real looking it is like out the window and seeing in real life. That is the only way I know how to explain the quality.
I don't use the video much, but have had fun with it hoping I may learn about developing and using them later.
Pros: excellent image quality, Bright LCD, Simple controls/menu, quiet, Solid Operation, easy to use, good battery life
Cons: fps is slow for wildlife.

Almost there...

I bought the 5D Mark II partially for the video features... I don't regret it, but I wouldn't recommend it, either. Until Canon adds 24p and full manual control over shutter, aperture and ISO to the video mode, it's not really usable as a video camera. Hopefully these fixes are coming in a firmware update.
The other bummer is that the Auto ISO mode for stills gives you no control. It would be great to be able to set your own maximum ISO, and set your own maximum aperture and/or shutter speed, depending on whether you're in Av, Tv or full auto.
Outside of those very obvious omissions, it's a great camera. It really does deliver in low light, and the resolution is astounding.
Pros: Superior build quality, excellent image quality, Bright LCD, Solid Operation, easy to use
Cons: Missing features/settings, no 24p, no manual control in video, no control over auto iso
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

My son was getting married and I want to shoot his wedding. My last 10 mega pixel camera took the worst pictures with flash. I just finished shooting my son's wedding and with the Canon 430 EX flash in auto mode and every one of my pictures came out absolutely perfect. I thought I spend a lot of money for this camera but I am so pleased and it is worth the money. I hope I never have to buy another camera. The lens i used is the standard lens that came with it- 25-105MM.
Pros: good battery life, Nice features/settings, Quick Start-up time, excellent image quality, Superior build quality, Bright LCD
Cons: Heavy/Bulky

Best camera I have ever owned

I am a pro-sumer, meaning that I do some work for pay but mostly for my own enjoyment. This camera meets all my needs, whether for a wedding, birthday or the kids. Portraits are superb (because of 14 bit tonal depth and using pro lenses). Detail is clear and margins are at 21 MP size, meaning they are utterly sharp. I also shoot miniatures and this camera is ideal for that use.
Pros: Superior build quality, excellent image quality, Bright LCD, Simple controls/menu, Nice features/settings, quiet, Quick Start-up time, Solid Operation, easy to use, Lightweight/Portable, good battery life
