Worth the money

The camera is worth the price, The only thing that could be better would be the auto focus, my 40d was MUCH faster at both auto focusing and obviously the FPS. The Camera is really easy to use if you have used any canon in the past and the photos are AMAZING. Great for portrait, landscapes, weddings, not so great for action shots
Pros: good battery life, quiet, Nice features/settings, Quick Start-up time, excellent image quality, Superior build quality, Bright LCD, Solid Operation, Lightweight/Portable, Simple controls/menu, easy to use, amazing pictures
Cons: auto focus is slow very slow

New 5D Mark II

Replaced my old friends 40D and XTi with this and have been very impressed. It is so much like my 40D that learning it and making it intuitive was pretty easy. Though I have not explored the full range of features, I am most impressed with the extraordinary detail in even a hand-held long shot on enlargement. Down sides are few/ The focusing screen fell out after three weeks of use, apparently due to a missing tab. The camera does not accept my older 28-80mm designed for smaller sensors. Worst feature is that the RAW files can't be handled by my CS3 or DNG converter files and means I have to work around that thru making TIFs with other software before I can work with the RAWs. But that is really a PS problem, not a Canon one.
Pros: excellent image quality, Bright LCD, Simple controls/menu, Nice features/settings, Quick Start-up time, Solid Operation, easy to use, good battery life
Cons: noisy, Heavy/Bulky

Great upgrade to my 30D

I was skeptical about this camera because of all the nah sayers in the forums about Black Dots and Banning. But, after thoroughly reading about all the other owners who explained the issues I decided to buy this camera. Canon has always stood by it's products and have been reliable and performance of their equipment has always been top notch! That being said I jumped at having a full size sensor at a price that I can afford!
The jump from the 30D is remarkable. I have soooooo much more control over everything and my pictures never looked THIS GOOD! Since I got the camera in mid December I have taken over 5000 shots and enjoyed beautiful results. I don't see how I can go back to the 30D so I am going to sell it! Do you know of anyone who wants a used 30D still in excellent shape?
Pros: Superior build quality, excellent image quality, Bright LCD, Simple controls/menu, Nice features/settings, Quick Start-up time, Solid Operation, easy to use, good battery life, great addition to my equipment!
Cons: noisy, 21.1mp chews up writing power on less quality cfs

Best camera I used, but could be better

This is the first full frame camera I have. I did pretty thorough research so I know about AF and I don't need more than 3.9fps. I know the ISO is great, image quality is great, and LCD just blow 40D away. Here is the surprise that I had:
Start from the bad: The only surprise for me is the shutter lag seems longer than my 40D. It took me about a month to get use to it.
The good: 1. AF actually exceed my expectation, it is very accurate and it can trace pretty well if you know what you are doing. Machine gun it won't work, but I am not that type anyway. 2. It is sharp. It is the sharpest camera I ever used 3. ISO meet my expectation
The ugly: Highlight Tone Priority is very intolrable of exposure manipulation in PP. It does have pattern noise. If Canon can make be pushed as normal mode, that would be very useful.
The hopeful: I desperately need AutoISO in Manual mode, this feature is available in 7D and T2i. And I don't believe this is anything limited by the hardware and a pure simple firmware thing. If it is not in the next firmware update, I would be extremely dissappointed.
Pros: good battery life, excellent image quality, Bright LCD
Cons: Missing features/settings

Fantastic Camera - except the weight

I concur with the majority of positive reviews. I use the camera professionally and as a photo enthusiast. I bought mine with the kit lens and have no reservations recommending this camera for what it is. It takes some of the most beautiful pictures and video I have seen. I shoot landscape and architectural (indoors and out) to take stunning photos that are beyond the capabilities of lesser cameras.
My reservation is the weight; it’s not a vacation camera. Even with a backpack and no extra lenses this camera gets heavier and heavier with each hour.
For on the go casual shooting, a (plastic) Rebel is a better choice; however your photos cannot compare with the 5D Mark II. A G12 with a wider angle lens (21 – 105) would be my perfect travel camera.
Pros: good battery life, Nice features/settings, Quick Start-up time, excellent image quality, Superior build quality, Bright LCD, Solid Operation, easy to use, full frame images
Cons: Heavy/Bulky, fear of theft - don't turn your back on it.

Good camera, but so much unrealized potential
on February 14, 2009

Canon lenses are fantastic. The cameras are good, and they have a tremendous amount of potential. Unfortunately, most of it is left unrealized due to a host of problems that would be easy for Canon to correct:
* Manual control of exposure in video. * A truly raw histogram (no picture profile applied) * Auto ISO in Manual mode. * Metadata ISO (up to 5 stops more highlights and dynamic range). The Canon 10D had this feature but it was removed from subsequent cameras. * Metadata intermediate ISO (same reason). * nonlinear compression instead of sRAW, which suffers aliasing artifacts and wastes space. * Provide more masked-off pixels. * Reduce variable pattern noise, especially at base ISO. * Allow control of the audio level.
Pros: 21 mp, video, cheap, lens selection
Cons: no manual control of video, no auto iso in manual mode, no metadata iso, no raw histogram, fake intermediate iso, strong variable pattern noise, sraw is aliased and wasteful, 14 bit wasted due to noise, no control of audio level, too few masked-off pixels for vpn reduction

Excellant Camera

I am finally able to see what my lenses are capable of. Coming from the 5D this camera is such an amazing step up in functionality and quality. There are a couple of things I have witnessed and desire. I did a landscape once and there was a band of blurred space near the bottom. The next shot it was not there same scene. This is some form of defect during interpolation perhaps due to writing to CF. I would like to see auto ISO for M to mean auto ISO for the fixed AvTv combination. It currently is fixed at 400. I can do that manually.
Pros: Superior build quality, excellent image quality, Bright LCD, Simple controls/menu, Nice features/settings, quiet, Quick Start-up time, Solid Operation, easy to use, Lightweight/Portable, good battery life
