superb camera--some issues

I have this MkII and two 5Ds. I bought the 5D MkII for the 21 megapixels and the easy ISO range expansion up to 25K. With a fast (60Mb/sec) 16GB CF card I can get close to 550 photos and the transfer rate is at least 4 fps. I love the camera for jungle shoots in low light, BUT humidity and heat are the foe of this camera. I lost function in one of the 5ds in Costa Rica, and the MkII quit in the Amazon last week. The issue seems to be the LCDs that become inop and the camera quits. I lost a focusing screen in Greenland but fortunately I was doing macro and retrieved it off a flower. It gets fixed and returned promptly (Gold cps member) but when you are used to the ISO speed of the MkII it's hard to go back to the 5d and I lost some shots of monkeys in the Amazon. That's why I give it 4 stars for quality.
Pros: good battery life, quiet, Nice features/settings, Quick Start-up time, excellent image quality, Bright LCD, Solid Operation, great ergonomics, many custom features
Cons: reliability??

Best Overall DSLR yet

I've been shooting with this for about a month now. I've used the 20D and 40D previously, and just love this one. It's nice to finally have full frame digital, and I notice the extra pixels a lot. Overall usability has improved over past models, and yet it has the same familiar interface as the previous models. The 5D also does well in low light, even at ISO speeds of 200 and 400.
I'm impressed. Money well spent, and a great motivation to buy some more L series glass, as this camera really shows off the clarity and detail that a good lens has to offer.
The only additional feature improvement I could ask for is more granular automated bracketing control for setting up images for merged HDR. But that's more of a wish list item than criticism.
Great piece of photo great and it inspires me to get out and shoot.
Pros: Superior build quality, excellent image quality, Bright LCD, Simple controls/menu, Nice features/settings, quiet, Quick Start-up time, Solid Operation, easy to use, good battery life

Terrific Camera

I bought this camera for it's low light abilities. Shooting at ISO 6400 is amazing. Blew up a nice 8X10, you would never know it's shot at anything above ISO 400. Also, amazing resolution. You can crop the heck out of a shot and it still looks good. Basically turned my 200mm into a 600mm with it's amazing resolution. Build quality is very good. HD video is really fun. Controls and ease of use are great. Highly recommend.
Pros: excellent image quality, Bright LCD, Simple controls/menu, Nice features/settings, Quick Start-up time, Solid Operation, good battery life, hd video
Cons: Heavy/Bulky

I own the 5D and was amazed by it. I was hoping for quite a bit more from the MarkII. The lack of manual controls in video mode is unacceptable. And WHY Canon does the Mark II still have the same old Auto Focus? Why not eh AF from the 1D? But it is faster and makes amazing images and that is really the bottom line right?
Pros: Superior build quality, excellent image quality, Quick Start-up time, Solid Operation, good battery life
Cons: no manual control in video mode, poor af

Great Stills - Missing Manual Control for Video
on March 4, 2009

I've owned several Canon cameras including the EOS 5 film camera, EOS 10D, XH-A1 video camera, and now the 5d mk II. I have a bunch of Canon lenses, including the 17-40mm L, and the 70-200mm f2.8 IS L. For stills, this is a fantasic camera. Unfortunately, Canon did not give us any manual control of shutter speed, aperture or ISO in video mode. This rather cripples the video mode of the camera as you end up getting different looking shots on each take and have to use any one of a number of techniques to "fool" the camera into giving you settings which are appropriate for your shot. If Canon gave the user manual control in video mode, this camera would be ideal.
Pros: Bright LCD, Simple controls/menu, Nice features/settings, Quick Start-up time, easy to use, good battery life
Cons: Missing features/settings, noisy, missing manual control in video mode

Almost Perfect

Got this camera after using D40 for over a year and of course you cannot even compare how big of a difference it is between the two. Love almost everything about 5D MkII, except: I wish it had 5 AEBs for HDR. And the video was a bit more flex as it is too basic. Is it still worth it? "ohh YEAH… every penny. Very nice LCD. Sharp, great contrast, built great. if you can afford it just go for it. wont be disappointed trust me.
Pros: Superior build quality, excellent image quality, Bright LCD, Simple controls/menu, Nice features/settings, quiet, Quick Start-up time, Solid Operation, easy to use, Lightweight/Portable, good battery life
Cons: Missing features/settings
