Great Potential

Fantastic stills, very nice timelapse with the timer remote. The lack of manual control in video mode is the only let down.
This is a professional product bought by professionals. These professionals need the same basic controls that they have in stills mode, to control the lens, aperture, shutter speed and iso in video mode. Also, needed is the option of 25p.
With these small changes, the camera would be excellent.
Cons: Missing features/settings

Very good camera, but the full manul control in Video mode - must be! 24/25fps will be very nice.

Be prepared to be amazed

Get this baby. Only use Canon L series lenes. Shoot in RAW & JPGs. Edit RAW in Photoshop and be awed and astonished by the hidden nuances of tone, color and details that grace your eyes. This is "the camera" for people who want perfection in your final image (short of investing ten times and more in Hasselblads and the like). The 5D Mark II is the finest DSRL on the market today. Although there is a camcorder onboard. Forget it. You want a camcorder, go buy a new Canon Vixia. You want amazing stills, get the 5D Mark II.
Pros: Superior build quality, excellent image quality, Bright LCD, quiet, Solid Operation, easy to use, good battery life

canon hits another home run with their new 5D MK I

Amazing camera, Tough as nails and water resistant. It takes beautiful detailed photos and HD video. Just make sure you have a fast umad CF card for video work as you can run into problems downloading the video without breaks. I love the camera so much I bought a second one. Wonderful custom functions ability. I can't say I dislike anything about the camera. I do wish they had incorporated a couple of the features from the 7D in it like the one button live view and the ability to auto focus in HD video mode. But I'm sure the next Generation of 5D will surpass even that. That is if we can earn enough money to keep up with Canons R&D department. Keeping up with the next best thing can break you. LOL
Pros: good battery life, quiet, Nice features/settings, Quick Start-up time, excellent image quality, Superior build quality, Bright LCD, Solid Operation, Simple controls/menu, easy to use, overall a great camera
Cons: Heavy/Bulky, no auto focus for video

Great full frame camera

This is an excellent full frame camera. I love how easy it is to use and where everything is located on the body (i.e. buttons and such). The only cons for this camera would be the autofocusing system and the frames per second. This camera is known for not having the best autofocusing system and at 3.9 fps, I feel like this is a little slow. However, those things aside, this camera is a dream to shoot with. With the Mark III out though, I would recommend buying that instead of the Mark II IF you have the money. If it would be quite some time before you could ever save up the money for a Mark III, then go for the Mark II.
Pros: good battery life, quiet, Nice features/settings, Quick Start-up time, excellent image quality, Superior build quality, Bright LCD, Solid Operation, Simple controls/menu, easy to use
Cons: autofocus, frames per second

Best camera I ever owned

I have numerous DSLRs and the 5D2 is the best of all of them. The image quality is superb, the high ISO quality is without comparison. I had sold a medium format camera and never enjoyed image quality with that camera as I do with the 5D2. The 5D2 is THE camera that all others are compared to.
Pros: image quality, price, lcd display is outstanding
Cons: none

I've wanted a 5D MKII for years

I've wanted a 5D MKII for years as I have always looked at it as the gold standard for affordable DSLRs. When the MK3 came out the price finaly came down on the MK2 and I was able to afford it. I bought the MK2 about two months ago and LOVE IT. The image quality is incredible and I have been able to do things with it I could not do with my 50D or 7D. I am completely satisfied with the MK2 and it takes photos as good or better than I am capable of producing.
Pros: quiet, Nice features/settings, excellent image quality, Superior build quality, Simple controls/menu, easy to use

Great upgrade move

Since entering the digital era I went from a 20D to a 5D and then to a 5D Mark II. The Mark II is a fabulous camera and the increase in detail is amazing. I currently use my Mark II as my main camera and the 5D as my backup. One thing I consider a downside is the fact that now I have to carry two sets of batteries and two battery chargers. I should have checked ahead of time (though it probably wouldn't have changed my mind), but why does the configuration and fit of the battery have to keep changing. I understand that the newer batteries are probably better, but why cause us to carry two completely different sets for a 5D and a 5D Mark II, knowing how critical it is when traveling to control weight and bulk? I realize it sells more product but at a detriment to us photographers who have to pack it around. The only other thing is noise. I do mainly wildlife photography and after stalking and hiding to get close to my subject, the noise of the camera is almost always detected while shooting. Please can you make a quieter camera?
Pros: detail, size and weight of body, fast enough for wildlife
Cons: noisy, battery change from 5d
