Great Camera

This camera is great in just about every way , there are a few things i would change , the 9 point AF , im not sure why in the world there is only a 9 point AF system in the 5d mark II , this camera deserves so much better , the other small thing is low light shooting , it is ok , but a lot of noise past 1600iso , other than that , depending on your lens and i recommend using a tripod unless your very stable , you get super sharp images , and the camera just feels great , yeah a little heavy and bigger than your beginner dslr , you feel like your holding a great piece of equipment , im upgrading to the 5d mark III for the extra's , but i shoot professional portraits , and i need the extra things the mark III has , if your coming from a rebel or other amateur camera , start with the mark II , get to know the camera , and see if you need the extra stuff on the mark III if you dont the mark II works great
Pros: Superior build quality, Super-sharp images, great camera
Cons: Slow auto-focus, 9 point af system

Worth Every Penny

I upgraded from the 5D last winter. The picture quality unmached by any other camera in the canon line except the 1DS Mark III. I use the camera for weddings, portraits and landscapes. I could not be any happier with the results. I have recently started shooting football games, unfortunately this camera was not really designed for sports, it just does not have a fast enough frames per second or auto focus. I really wish Canon would have not put the video in the camera and put a better auto focus and faster frames per second. That being said it is still the best camera you can buy for the money, nothing else comes close. The high ISO is incredibly low noise. Do not hesitate to buy this camera.
Pros: Superior build quality, excellent image quality, Bright LCD, Quick Start-up time, good battery life

Canon's 5D Mark II
on August 21, 2009

I own the Canon 40D, 5D, and now the 5D Mark II which I just received a couple of days ago. Right out of the box it gave amazing photos with the colors exactly what I saw with my naked eye. I'm amazed and think I've finally found the camera I've been looking for. I only purchased the body since I have a large assortment of Canon L series lenses which I use with all my Canon's. I haven't played with all the features and settings yet and don't know if I will for some of them I'm not really interested in, but I know their there if I ever need them. (Example Live Video) I'm a wildlife and nature photographer and take numerous still shots of both, I've been looking for a great camera which would give me fantastic photos of both without having to always do editing to the photos to get the desired results. Just the first few photos I took right out of the box with the Mark II showed me this was the camera I've been waiting for. I also took a few photos in the fully manual mode using a few settings and so far superior results seems to be what the 5D Mark II is all about. Thanks Canon !!!
Pros: Superior build quality, excellent image quality, Bright LCD, Simple controls/menu, Nice features/settings, Quick Start-up time, Solid Operation, good battery life

The best camera I've ever owned
on November 24, 2011

I've been an avid photographer since 1982 and have used many different brands of professional film and digital SLR cameras. The 5D Mark II is simply the best camera I've ever owned, producing the most strikingly beautiful shots in all kinds of lighting conditions. Good photography depends on good lenses, and the combination of Canon's L series lenses and the 5D MkII is stunning. The full frame CMOS sensor means no sacrifice of wide angle shots, especially good for landscape photographers. My general lens of choice is the very capable 24-105mm F4 L, and I take it with me everywhere.
The only thing that is a drawback is the absence of low-light autofocus without an on-camera flash. I'm hoping that Canon will include an onboard infrared system to remedy this with the 5D MkIII. I can work around it with the Mk II but it's a bit of a pain. Other than that, I have nothing but the highest praise for this camera and its L series lenses.

Actually should have been 5 Stars, but . . .

Actually, my review should/could have been all 5 stars all the way. My only regret is that there is not a way (yet) to have the camera/lens autofocus in video mode (I guess I want it all). Perhaps, in the future, we can have a rangefinder added to the camera for controlling the focus during video?
Having said that, just as a show of my support for this camera, you should know, I am in the process of selling my 1Ds Mark III now that I have tested out the 5D.
Pros: Superior build quality, excellent image quality, Bright LCD, Simple controls/menu, Nice features/settings, quiet, Quick Start-up time, Solid Operation, easy to use, Lightweight/Portable, good battery life
Cons: missing auto-focus in video mode (add rangefinder)

Canon has OUTDONE themselves...

The day I heard Canon had released the 5D Mkii, I was anxious to get my hands on it. 21.1mp's, FULL HD video, FULL Frame, what else is there to ask for!? I've rented the camera a few times to get a first hands-on experience. All I can say is the moment it touched my hands, I was hooked.
Very solid build. Conforms to my hands nicely. Large screen with easy to use controls. I also had the battery grip which made it even better. Battery life is pretty good given the fact that this camera packs so much power in it.
Pros: Superior build quality, excellent image quality, Bright LCD, Simple controls/menu, Nice features/settings, quiet, Quick Start-up time, Solid Operation, good battery life

Excellent Camera

I've been using the 5D MkII for about a year. This is, without a doubt, the best camera I've ever owned. The results I've gotten have been nothing less than phenominal.
What's so good?
- the build is solid and substantial and I've had no problems whatsoever under challenging conditions.
- noise even at 3200 ISO is minimal...terrific for low light conditions
- controls are convienient and easy to use as are menu items.....converts to different picture styles on the run.
- cleaning system works well....I sometimes use a EF 100-400 IS USM which can move dust through a camera easily and I rarely end up with a "bolder" in the blue sky.
- the battery longevity is alomost unbelieveable, I have a battery grip and still haven't purchased a second battery because the service time of the single is so good.
- start up is lightning fast
- LCD is bright and the auto control for brightness is a neat feature!
- body itself is fairly light...if you use a battery grip and L series lenses, expect to be hauling some weight.
I use the camera as a still camera and have "fooled around" with the video capture so I can't comment on this feature.
If you want a camera of fime quality, this is the one!
Pros: good battery life, Nice features/settings, Quick Start-up time, excellent image quality, Superior build quality, Bright LCD, Solid Operation, Simple controls/menu, easy to use

Easy operation

I purchased my 5D mark II about two months ago, and am now getting to know it better. I used film cameras years ago, and got into the digital arena about a year ago, after a long absence. I bought a T1i as my first digital camera and moved up to the 5d after a year.
It would appear to be pricey, but the ease of operation and the speed you can get to the settings you need is, to me, well worth the price. So I have given it an excellent on price.
I've encountered no problems with the camera, and the quality of the photo's I've taken is very good.
I recommend this to anyone wanting to step up in their photography, or someone serious about photography, but not sure about spending the money.
Pros: Nice features/settings, excellent image quality, Simple controls/menu, easy to use
