The fix is in!

I have owned the camera for about a month and still working on the learning curve. I take many photos at night or in low light situations and the camera has been working very well with great results at high ISOs. I have had some minor problems with the "Black Dots". However today I did the Firmware update to Ver. 1.0.7 and re-shot some of the same lights that showed black dots under ver 1.0.6. This time the black dots problem was diminished to the point I do not think it is a problem to be concern about anymore. Video is hard to work (auto focus / exposure ) but then again this is mainly a still camera.
Pros: Superior build quality, excellent image quality, Bright LCD, Nice features/settings, quiet, Quick Start-up time, Solid Operation
Cons: Missing features/settings, Heavy/Bulky

Worth The Wait

Waited a year to purchase and it was well worth the wait. The camera is sturdy, it is easy to use. Great images at up to ISO 1250! Marginal noise. It is not for action, but I have another body for that. This would be a stellar camera except for two glaring problems. -> The auto-focus system is old and tired and requires work to be successful with the camera. -> The images produced generally require a 1/3 to 1/2 EV adjustment. Images are typically on the dark side.
I am glad I made the jump. Very pleased.
Pros: good battery life, Nice features/settings, Quick Start-up time, Superior build quality, Bright LCD, easy to use
Cons: see review

Since purchasing this I barely use anything else. My clients always have rave reviews for the color and quality of thier images and if they are happy, I am extremely happy. I upgraded from a 20D to the 5D MK II knowing there was a difference between the two but I had no clue just how much I would fall in love with this camera. I would buy another one as a backup if I could.

I just took possession of this 5D Mark II. What a great camera. The camera is a huge advancement over ALL of the previous CANON SLR cameras. I patiently waited for over a year in anticipation of this camera. Boy am I glad I waited. Whether you are a professional or an amateur, I would recommend that ALL owners thoroughly read and re-read the owners manual to ensure you understand all the new functionality built into this camera.
Pros: Superior build quality, excellent image quality, Bright LCD, Simple controls/menu, Quick Start-up time, Solid Operation, easy to use, good battery life

Best digital camera I have owned

I have used Canon cameras for over 30 years starting with a FTb 35mm camera. I have owned an XTi, 40D, 5D, and now the 5D Mark II. I have 5 Canon lenses (three of which are L series) and the 5D II brings out the best in all of them. The 5D II is the best-ever camera for wedding photos and works very well for protraits. The 21 MP sensor allows for wide lattitude in cropping that the 30/40D series doesn't allow. I really haven't used the video portion yet so I can't comment on that. I recently purchased the 24-105mm f/4 L lens. This combination is superb for 95% of my wedding shots. The full-frame sensor allows for wide to medium telephoto use without the time-consuming lens changes. Overall, I give this camera a 10 out of 10.
Pros: Superior build quality, excellent image quality, Bright LCD, Simple controls/menu, Nice features/settings, Quick Start-up time, Solid Operation, easy to use, good battery life

Extremely satisfied

I purchased the kit (my first ever L series lens) and couldn't me happier. My wife can't get me to shut up about it, my son is tired of smiling and going on "walks" :) And I can't find enough hours in the day to do all the shooting I want to! I love this camera!
I am the longest term amateur photographer I know...going on 25 years now, LOL. I was the proud owner of the XXD series, through 40D, 30D, 20D...and have collected decent APS-C glass. Certainly my deciding factor when moving to full frame was my bag of Canon glass already accumulated. Didn't really realize the difference though:) The feelilng/look/results of the 24-105L vs. the 28-135IS that came with the 40D/50D kits, the difference is night and day. Big Raw Shots with Large JPegs tend to take up some space, 104 shots per 4gig card....but that's cool. If the only sacrifice I have to make is to buy bigger CF cards and better lenses, I'll live!!
I haven't shot video yet but I am looking forward to it.
Good Luck and happy shooting!
Pros: Superior build quality, excellent image quality, Bright LCD, Simple controls/menu, Nice features/settings, quiet, Quick Start-up time, Solid Operation, good battery life

It's now going on 6 months since I got my 5D and absolutely love it. This is my second Canon purchase in 2 years and I am very happy with my choices. I got it for the sensor size and not because of the video. I thought I don't know why anyone would want to video on a dslr. That is till I took it out of the box just to look at the video and wow, hooked. The images are also amazing, I love large prints so I print 13 x 19 prints and they are so clear I can see what the person on the photo is thinking :-) You can't go wrong with the 5D.
Pros: good battery life, Nice features/settings, Quick Start-up time, excellent image quality, Superior build quality, Bright LCD, Simple controls/menu, easy to use
Cons: Heavy/Bulky

Exceptional Camera - Bet on Full Frame

I returned my Canon 7D because I was NOT happy with excessive noise problem after shooting 500 pictures. I have good quality canon lens portfolio. I use camera for nature photography, and amateur photo journalism purpose. I could not compromise the quality of my images and had to dig in to FF size cameras. With serious concern, I purchased Canon 5D and 70-200 L USM 2.8f without IS.
Quality of images are beyond amazing, literally it is day and night difference. I am looking to buy 24 - 70 USM L 2.8f lens for photojournalism purpose. I tried my other three lens with Canon 5D camera, fantastic results with 17-40mm L USM 4.0f lens, 100m 2.8f macro lens and 75-300mm 3.5-5.6f with IS. If you give up on Canon 7D, you will be giving up on instant flash, 50% of frame per second speed, few good video features, instant correct white balance feature, Fast & Functional AF focus. It was a hard decision for me, pay excessive extra money and give up on these good features. Canon should have at least provided 41 point AF features on this camera.
I could not live with noisy pictures and decided to bet on Full Frame feature heavily. Today I am so thrilled with sharp quality of pictures and low light performance. I was happy with 3.9 frame per second performance, It is not too bad. Video feature is awesome!, but video does not have auto focus. I did not understand why not? Hard to coordinate focus and movement of camera and white balance in video tend to be slow. I can hardly imagine to use this camera for professional action videos. Shooting video will be easier with Canon 7D.
Yes this is the best value SLR camera Canon offers because of its FULL FRAME feature and with FF you will get the most out of canon L lens series. You can take pictures with Wider angle, sharp color, from brighter viewfinder.
Digic 4 is fast enough but make sure to use fastest memory card. I have no problem with battery but you should have extra. Excellent performance with external 430 TTL flash. Recommended 580 TTL. Never tried that one.
Get ready spend more than $5k to camera and lens.
If you can wait till Canon 5D mark 3 it would be ideal, if you can not wait BUY THIS CAMERA NOW. You will love it.
Pros: good battery life, Quick Start-up time, excellent image quality, Superior build quality, Bright LCD, Simple controls/menu, simple to use
Cons: bad auto white balance feature, very bad af feature almost shame., no auto focus on video
