I have wanted this camera for a very long time now. I finally decided to upgrade from a Canon EOS Rebel XT. From the very 1st picture i took i could see the quality that this camera and lens has. Oh .. i bought the EOS 5D Mark II with a lens kit, The EF 24-105 L IS USM. This is a perfect match. My photos come out so nice. I am not a professional photographer, I just take pictures for my own enjoyment and hobbie, But i find myself taking my camera along almost every where i go now. This camera is so easy to use, even a total amature could use this. The Menu is easy to navigate, adjustments are at the touch of your fingers, and even though it is bigger then my EOS Rebel XT it is no problem caring it around when i go places. Canon supplies a software called Digital Photo Professional with the camera. This software is so easy to process raw photos. Sometimes a photo needs just a little tweeking to make it a perfect picture. The Battery is outstanding. Lasts me a long time. Not like my old camera which i had to be sure to carry a spare with me all the time. This one i have no trouble with the batty draining or running out of juice, How ever i do have a spare just in case. I can't get into all the tech terms since i am not a professional at all. All i know is if you are looking for a professional grade camera and want some outstanding pictures you will not be disappointed in the Canon EOS 5D Mark II. I am sure i will have and be using this camera for many years to come. Thank you canon for putting out such a high quality camera that is affordable to buy. I can not express how much i love this camera. I would rather loose a limb then loose my camera LOL.
Pros: good battery life, quiet, Nice features/settings, Quick Start-up time, excellent image quality, Superior build quality, Bright LCD, Solid Operation, Lightweight/Portable, Simple controls/menu, easy to use, excellent lens kit

The best DSLR I've ever had!

I've used the 5DII for about two months now. It replaced my 40D, which replaced the 20D, and which replaced the 60D. The bulk of my experience was in film photography, as such precisely how the DSLR cameras are becoming more "feature-loaded" has been my main interest. Some features have parallels in film photog, some are innovations made possible by the sensor-image processing technologies. This is the interconnection i am most interested in exploring.
Professionally I am a research scientist-engineer in advanced automation systems; my interest in photography is coupled to that. Although my interests are technical and advanced and I do not make a living as a photographer I study the picture-taking process in details in some of its aspects.
The 5DII interested me primarily because of its sensor system and the DIGIC IV processor with a review LCD monitor that is improved over the 40D. What is this camera allowing me to benefit from that the 40D did not? This test is done through creating images in many different situations and using different lenses in a wide range of f-stops. I use the 24-70L, 17-40L and the 70-200L.
So far, the main advantages of this camera has been to custom program my preferences by modifying the picture style functions, especially the portrait and landscape functions. The great sensitivity of the review LCD and the image magnification range allow me to do incredible things. There were pictures I shot with the 40D and 17-40L lens that I am now able to see to the smallest details with the 5DII. This is incredible. Is the 40D capable of creating image files that it cannot show because of the review LCD? Such questions were not part of film era.
The post-capture image exposure management functions are unique too.
In film our effort was to put all of the creative goals in the image capture process. E-DSLRs like the 5DII allow this as picture-style functions. All the post capture image management functions are unique. The 5DII is headed to hosting many functions that have been recently mostly done with a computer. Needless to say I'd be interested.
My 5DII allows me to pursue these interests with a passion. I am actually reviewing each image as I make it to critque it, and then fiddle with the parameters in order to make another to compare.
It is a great camera for the price. I did have to adjust the brightless level of the review LCD immediately.
Pros: Superior build quality, excellent image quality, Bright LCD, Simple controls/menu, Nice features/settings, quiet, Quick Start-up time, Solid Operation, easy to use, good battery life
Cons: Heavy/Bulky

I love this camera!!

I purchased my 5D Mark II December 10, 2008. I was over joyed when I learned Canon would release this camera. My first digital SLR was a Canon Rebel 300D and I really enjoyed using it. Over the past few years I upgraded accessories and during the Fall months of 2008 I invested in my first L lenses the Canon EF 17-40 F4 and the Canon EF 70-200 F4. The difference in the glass was fantastic over the standard Canon Lenses I used previously. I pondered buying the Canon 40D when it was released, then the 50D and then I discovered the full frame 5D. I realized then that I wanted a full frame SLR. I shopped around and lo and behold while searching for the best price of a 5D I learned of the upcoming release of the 5D Mark II. I took advantage of all the information available on Canon's website and attended a Canon seminar on the 5D Mark II at a local camera and video store. I did not purchase the Canon EF 24-105 F4 lense with the body since I already owned the other lenses but I am now considering that lense or the Canon 24-70 2.8L. Have to say I was more than impressed. Here you have the capability of 21 megapixal full frame SLR with HD Video to boot. I never imagined paying almost 3K for a camera but when you consider you are getting two cameras in one the price didn't seem so astounding. I love this camera. We have our first grand child living nearby and the moments captured with this remarkable camera are priceless. Words cannot express the joy and wonder this camera has given me. The possibilities are endless.
Pros: Superior build quality, excellent image quality, Bright LCD, Simple controls/menu, Nice features/settings, quiet, Quick Start-up time, Solid Operation, easy to use, Lightweight/Portable, good battery life

It was a big decision to purchase the 5D Mark II and the decision has proven to be a good one. Impressed with build quality, the thought that went into the info screen, and best of all the image quality is outstanding. Low light capabilities are simply amazing. Looking forward to matching my vision with the phenomenal output of the camera.
Pros: Nice features/settings, Quick Start-up time, excellent image quality, Superior build quality, Bright LCD, Solid Operation

Stunning stills / awesome video

The Canon 5D Mk II has taken my still photography to the ‘next level’ and my video production to an entirely new level. I primarily work in video but often integrate still photos into my projects. I appreciate the powerful combination of features and performance set against a small and easy form factor. The technology does not overwhelm but allows for a clean, simplistic workflow. I can quickly and easily field with a minimal amount of kit and return with exactly the shots or images I wanted. Having worked with this camera for more than a year now, I find my dedicated video camera (Canon XL-2) is spending more time in the office while the 5DMkII stays with me all the time.
Pros: add a pro
Cons: add a con

This camera is everything it is touted to be and so much more. The learning curve is a little steep at first however the results are absolutely spectacular. I recommend the learning videos from "Elite Video".
I sense that there is so much more to learn about this camera and thus apply to photography. I have owned a Hasselblad in the past the the optics on this camera ( kit L lens) are totally comparable.
