After doing some research, I decided on the HX50V due to is functions and size. Especially since it was for travel and wanted something smaller than an SLR. I had read that the shutter speed was slow, but when I got it I really didn't think it would be EXTREMELY Slow. I personally have opted not to use, it as it's frustrating to say the least. I have to say that after being a loyal SONY consumer, this was a big let down.
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

good quality purchase! I bought this camera for an overseas visit, it traveled well and wasn't too large but still had lots of power, I only had to charge it maybe twice for the week I was away. Took great pictures and even took some excellent night pictures as it picks up on light rather well, although for night it would work much better with a tripod, but I used some of the blurriness to my advantage as it suggested a long exposure photograph.
Although I took mostly landscape pictures it produces great details for far shots as well as super zoomed in, it is even capable of taking detailed images of something as small as my fingerprints!
I would recommend this to a friend!

Great Sony Camera With Lots Features

I got this camera back in 2013. I replaced my Canon compact camera which I considered one step down from a DSLR. I wanted a smaller camera I could use for travel and whenever I am out.
There is a lot more you can do with the sony hx50v than you can with cameras iPhones and smartphones. More features and takes incredible pictures. The quality is excellent.

I would definitely recommend the Sony HX50v to anyone.
I plan on buying the Sony RX100V
