Had the same model only older and the new one shaves closer. The design changes are just tweeks that make it easier to hold and the angle is slighly different. I always have said, "If it works leave it alone." They have but ever so slight difference makes a big difference.
I had used a competitive product for over 25 yrs and had bought this product on its price! The aquatic feature was a big surprise; wow! do I ever like the gentle feel when shaving with a lather. The cleaning is so easy!
The razor glides smoothly with no pull or drag. It’s easy to clean and rinsing is easy. It’s quiet too which I looked for when I bought it. The real test will be to see how long before the blades need to be replaced and the cost of the new blades. I'm also impressed with the length of charge on the battery.
I've had lots of Norelco's over the years and this one also provides a close shave on stubborn neck hairs. Haven't tried it with shaving cream or gel, use Williams Lectric Shave. They're no longer made in Holland -- maybe in the US someday?
Philips Norelco PowerTouch wet and dry electric razor AT814 is great!

The razor does everything it's supposed to do and does it very well. It gives me a close have every time. An added plus is the trimmer which is very handy when I want to trim my hair so that my haircut always looks neat.
The only item that I miss terribly is the larger case that is able to store the razor, brushes and the charger which is especially handy when I'm travelling.
The only complaint I have is that the on/off button is exactly where you put your hand to shave. As a result, the unit inadvertantly shuts off in the middle of shaving because my fingers accidently hit the on/off button. I have no other complaints.
