When Will Samsung Come out with 240Hz Motion

I love Samsung products, don't get me wrong. I love this LCD TV as well. Their design is so simple yet still doesn't lose the functionality and reliability that I need. I have an LCD and a Washer & Dryer from them, but one thing that got me, when will Samsung come out with the 240 Hz Motion Plus for their LCDs? I've seen on the Sony website that they will release theirs early 2009. I work in Mandarin Oriental NY, right next to the Time Warner Building and I pass by the Samsung Experience from time to time to see the latest news about Samsung and in Electronics in general. And I never got an answer from anyone regarding the 240Hz. I like Sony products as well, but for the price you pay for some of their products is ridiculous, when you can get the same products in a Samsung. Well, this would be it, I just hope that Samsung is not falling behind Sony...

Until we recently purchased our Samsung TV, we never realized how enjoyable TV viewing could be. The clairty of the picture, color, etc. makes this a very spectacular TV.
We also have purchased the Samsung audio surround bar which gives you a choice in elevating the sound level for news, cinemas, or music - very enjoyable. What a plus!
Of course, we couldn't do without our new Samsung Blue-Ray DVD player - watching DVD's is unbelieveable!

I researched 1080p LCD TV'S for about 3 months before I decided on buying the Samsung 860. I looked at many different brands of TV'S(sony, panasonic, pioneer, LG, mitsubishi, toshiba, sharp, phillips) and no other television's picture could compare to the excellent quality of samsung 52" 860 series. The TV has many different features,(it takes about 2 days to go thru the operators manual) some of the features make dramatic changes to your picture and some feauters there is very little difference in the tv's picture. With the many different picture adjustments, you can customize the tv's picture to however you may like it, brighter, more color, etc..The 50,000 to 1 contrast ratio is one of the highest listed among current 2008 tv's. Sony did not even list their contrast on their tv's, I wonder why? The 120HZ makes for a excellent picture even when watching fast moving broadcasts like sports. The 52" 860 is only about 1.5" thick and it only weighs about 60lbs which makes it much easier to wall mount this TV if you choose to do so.
The only complaint I have about his TV is: The screen has a slight glare that makes daytime(sunny) viewing a little difficult. I would recommend putting the TV against a wall where the sun does not shine directly upon the screen, if this is possible? I compensate for the daytime glare, by moving a little closer to the TV for better viewing. The TV has very small speakers, BUT this is to be expected with a TV so thin and light, I strongly recommend getting a home theatre system, don't get me wrong, the sound form the TV is ok, but not great.
The picture on this 860 series TV is AMAZING! Its like looking out a window inside your home. The colors are brilliant, and the high contrast makes for a really nice focus. Watching blu-rey movies is like being right there in the actual action/story. I have received many great compliments from family and friends when they see this TV for the very first time. I would recomend this TV to everyone.

Fabulous Image - Limited Viewing Options

After a few weeks of playing with the settings, I finally settled on the best settings for my environment and each specific use (movies, SDTV, HDTV, etc.) and I am extremely pleased with the image quality, in all cases.
Image size is quite another story. When viewing an SD cable program that is broadcast in 4x3 letterbox format, as several cable movie channels still do, there is no zoom option that will allow you to zoom the 4x3 letterboxed image to fill the whole screen and still remain in proportion. If you want to see the image, with everything in proportion, then essentially, the only selection available, presents an image that occupies only about 2/3 of the screen, right in the middle, with big black borders around the top, bottom and sides. The 860's "Wide Fit" mode, which should work, is NOT proportional.
Other TVs have a zoom option that assumes that the image portion of the 16x9 signal is really just an SD (4x3) image and they do a "PROPORTIONAL" zoom to the point that an SD image will fill the screen, from side to side. When you try this on the 860, the image fits from side to side, but the people in the image are short and dumpy (see attached image). Such a zoom option should be PROPORTIONAL.
Leaving off such a feature (or making it non-proportional) on a high-end TV is as crazy as not including native voice dialing on a high-end smart-phone... Oh, wait. Apple already did that. But, then Apple finally fixed their problem. I'm still waiting for Samsung to fix their zoom problem.
When I first set up the 860 and discovered this problem, I assumed (wrongly) that since Samsung usually makes "complete" products and this was a very new model for them, this missing zoom option was just an oversight that would soon be remedied with a software update. Well, it has been quite a while and still no update. It makes viewing letterboxed SD movies on the 860 like viewing them on a 40" TV. Not cool.
We also notice the occasional out-of-sync issue between sound and image. In particular, the sound LEADS the image. This is not consistent and most often shows up on cable programs that are broadcast in SD. It has however, been observed on every source, except the AppleTV, which I have not yet used that much.
I am feeding the video into the TV via an HDMI cable and the sound is going to the amp via optical cable, in all but one case, which uses a coaxial cable. It appears that the amp is processing the signal in real-time, but that occasionally the TV is delaying the image. The reason why I say this is that when the out-of-sync issue is present and I turn on the TV speakers (which, by the way, are just as bad as every other TV's speakers) and turn down the volume on the amp, the sound is in sync. When the problem is not evident, the sound from the TV speakers is perfectly in sync with the sound from the amp and with the image.
I can't imagine why the 860 takes longer to process some programs than others, but it does happen and can be rather distracting.
The image quality, especially for programs with lots of motion, is fantastic. Black blacks. Bright enough for even bright rooms. Surprisingly little reflection for a reflective screen. But with the problems listed above, it does leave more than a little bit to be desired.
While I am far from dissatisfied with the 860, when I look for my next TV (soon), I will certainly examine my choices a lot closer and not assume that all high-end TVs include the most basic features, properly implemented. It has a superb image. But, I can't say for sure that I would have bought this TV, had I known of its zoom limitations, at the time. Maybe, but maybe not. For that reason, I can only recommend this TV, with some strong reservations.
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.
