I have a herniated disc at L5/S1. I'm trying to get my core strong without doing crunches and such (PT recommendation). This is one of the methods I'm using. There are pops and creaks that it makes, especially right out of the box. After a while they diminished though. I can't imagine how they'd create an adjustable base like this without that kind of thing. There's a crap load of pressure on that base. If they made the threads tighter it would be more expensive and harder to adjust. It's not going to break, it's just kinda noisy until you develop the balance to keep it from wobbling a lot. If you want to avoid that noise, the non-adjustable version will probably be your thing (I'd probably go with it myself if I bought again, I'll probably never adjust it).Be careful with this thing if you're using it for recovery exercises. It's very easy to overdo it. I did and spent the next couple days hoping I hadn't made it worse again...trying to avoid surgery. Probably not that great for someone injured that isn't already confident in their balance--after several years of MA I am pretty decent at it.

Ordered this on a whim and everyone in the family enjoys it. We keep it in the living room and everyone in the house - from age 7-47 - uses it every day. Fun to stand on while chatting or watching TV. The kids try tricks on it and don't injure themselves. Hint: We keep it on a small rug so it doesn't leave a mark on the carpet. Everyone has fun with it and I think it's a bit of a workout.

This board is pretty much what I expected and was looking for, and I use it indoors and out, it seems to be fine on any surface. The black surface is pretty rough, so I don't recommend trying it barefoot, but it does work to keep your shoes from slipping when you stand on it. The only thing I was a little disappointed with was the guide that accompanied it, I was expecting a greater variety of exercises and/or a video to show a workout, but I guess you can find that on the internet...

This is super difficult to do... Close to impossible when I first tried, but little by little I am getting better on it. It is hands down the most efficient way to improve balance. Just do it close to a wall so you don't fall! The item is great and price is great. My physical therapist has one that costs 5 times as much and it does the same thing.
