Great features

I bought this camera for myself for Xmas. Some features of this camera were easy since I have an older smaller Canon. Other features took a while to figure out, but after going through the instruction manual several times and spending some time working through the instructions I now have a feel for what the camera can do and what to do to get the right results. It will do so much it is a little intimidating. I guess it really is a computer with a lens. It does take very good pictures. Every one so far in sharp focus even at full zoom. I have take a few bird pictures and an happy with the results. Even at 2.3 x full zoom. It really pulled in the subject with clear sharp focus. The image stabilization works. I have shot pictures when the flash should have been on and the pictures are still sharp and in focus. I don't mind having to manually lift the flash and push the flash button. The flash button is really in a bad place. When I hold the camera I put my L. index finger on the top of the camera right where the flash/sound button is. Taking movies is very simple and they are good. I was really surprised and the sound is in stereo. I have an 8 gig card and it took a movie of a band for nearly an hour before shutting off. The file size had reached it's max even though I still had over 4 gig left on the card.
The worst feature of the camera is the control dial on the outside of the function button. It is very hard to get the fingers to grip it to turn without activating something else on the function button/joy stick. On top of that it does not adjust smoothly. It is like working a mouse that does not move the curser until you get rough with it and then you may go past the setting and then have to play with it to get it back. I don't understand how such a poor control could be put on an otherwise great camera. Manual focus is impossible to control with this control dial and also the settings in the SCN mode. There should be a redesign and a recall. Maybe mine does not work right, but I've heard others complain as well.
The macro and super macro is a nice feature. I took pictures of snowflakes on the other side of a window pane and they were excellent.
The manual is a little confusing. I take it with me all the time until I really get used to setting all the features. I wish the manual would give more hints about using the different features and when not to.
I am glad I got the camera.

Easy, Excellent Pictures

The ease of using this camera is amazing. But even better is the quality of the photos. I started using the camera immediately with minimal help from the instruction manual. The more advanced features of the camera are really easy to learn too.
Pros: easy to use, Simple controls/menu, Bright LCD, excellent image quality, durable

great camera

just got this camera for my birthday and so far i love it..easy to use right out of the box gets a little more trickey with the advanced settings but nothing to complicated,takes great macro photos.i chose this camera because the A560 just wasnt cutting it anymore but im not ready for a DSLR just yet and figured it would be a good in between camera so far so good.
Pros: easy to use, Simple controls/menu, Nice features/settings, Bright LCD, excellent image quality, Good Low-Light Performance, good battery life, durable
Cons: Heavy/Bulky

Excellent Camera

I have used digital SLR cameras and I can say I am getting as good or better photos with this camera. My only complaint is that it is a little slow on continuous shooting.
Pros: easy to use, Simple controls/menu, Nice features/settings, Bright LCD, excellent image quality, Good Low-Light Performance, Lightweight/Portable, good battery life, durable

could be better

Overall I like this camera. However, I don't like the inconsistency of the AF. I have produced some amazing pictures. But for every good image I get, I have a dozen blurry, grainy pics. Personally I won't buy another CCD camera, I'm stepping up to an SLR. Another thing, the flash is incredibly underpowered for the focal range of the camera.
Pros: Bright LCD, good battery life
Cons: Complicated controls/menu, Poor Low-Light Performance

Outstanding Pictures

I absolutely love the ease with which I am able to take beautiful, clear photographs. I have found the SX10 IS to be very easy to use and the photographs are as clear as any I've ever taken. I purchased this camera on the 4th of July and was taking great pics of fireworks that evening. I would reccommend this camera to anyone who wants to take wonderful pictures with relative ease.
Pros: easy to use, Bright LCD, excellent image quality, Good Low-Light Performance, Lightweight/Portable, durable
Cons: i wish that the lens cover were attached.

fantastic camera

Some have said this camera is great for outdoors but not indoors. If they would read the manual and practice they will find this is an excellent indoor camera. After reading and trying different things I have found this to be a very functional camera and very very good quality pics indoors and out. Rapid shooting is a very good feature with great pics. TAKE THE TIME TO LEARN THE CAMERA BEFORE JUDGING IT!!!. I delated a few pics due to user error, but not since learning it. It only took a day an a half to learn 90% of it. Take your time and learn, you will thoroughly enjoy this camera.

Quality Camera but has flaws

The performance and features of the PowerShot SX 10 IS are generally first rate. There are two features I do not like. First, the lens cover is poorly designed and is easily dislodged from its place. Expect some time loss searching for it, if you can find it. At this point, I have not found a solution to secure its attachment. Second, after using the camera, I have less appreciation for the fold out viewer which is more difficult to focus quickly than a inline viewer. There is also the delay of flipping it out which means missing the short you really wanted.
Pros: Nice features/settings, excellent image quality, durable, Bright LCD, Lightweight/Portable, easy to use
Cons: Complicated controls/menu
