Perfect Choice

I take the majority of my pictures on board a boat so needed excellent zoom capabilities as well as image stabilization. This camera delivers that exceptinally well in a nice compact package.
The only shortfall and I consider it substantial is that there is no ability to add lens filters - even if only to protect the camera lens from dirt and scratches. As user in outdoor, salt and fresh water, salt air, sand environment I would have loved to be able to protect the lens. To add to this the standard lens cover is virtually impossibloe to put on - after 5 months of usage it still falls off!
Pros: easy to use, Simple controls/menu, Bright LCD, excellent image quality, good battery life
Cons: cant accomodate lens filters, lens cover very hard to get on

great all-around camera

After years of lugging around a bagful of lenses and my 35mm camera I wanted to simplify my hobby. I did buy a Canon A620 a few years ago and while it is certainly a great camera, it wasn't a true replacement for my film setup. The SX10is has changed that. If you want one camera that can do many things without going to a DSLR setup, this camera is it. It has a great optical zoom, a great set of features, crisp and clear optics, and an easy to use menu system. I appreciate that Canon still puts view finders on many of its cameras as they just work better in daylight conditions. Canon should consider adding a filter thread to the lens and improve the continuous shooting speed but otherwise this is great camera. It is a bit on the large side, however. I have a pocket size digital with 7x optical zoom (another brand) for those times when I am out on my bike or hiking and don't want to carry around the Canon. Overall I am very please with the SX10is. I like the rechargable AA batteries, just get the ones with the highest mAh rating and they will last an amazing amount of time.
Pros: easy to use, Simple controls/menu, Nice features/settings, excellent image quality, good battery life, durable, great optical zoom, super macro mode gets you very close to subject
Cons: slow continuous shooting mode, inability to add filters

GREAT CAMERA

I lost my Canon S5 on Mother's Day and had to quickly replace it (my niece was getting married and I had some pre-wedding festivities I needed to take pictures of), so I bought the SX10. GREAT CAMERA!! Not only does it have all the bells and whistles of the S5, but it has a better zoom and more megapixels!
The camera showed it's true colors this past month while we were vacationing at the beach. My young niece and nephew were at the beach and I didn't feel like walking across the street, but wanted some pictures of them on the beach. So I got out my Canon camera, went out on our deck and zoomed in on them! I got pictures that look like I was right there!!! (I was actually about 150 feet away if not a little more!)
The only cons that I can think of is that the Canon SX10 doesn't support extra lenses or camera filters, and of course, the lens cap! (I miss my tether!) I had bought extra lenses and filters for my S5 that are now no good to me!
Pros: easy to use, Simple controls/menu, Nice features/settings, Bright LCD, excellent image quality, Good Low-Light Performance, durable
Cons: doesn't support extra lenses or filters, lens cap not tethered

Great for concerts

I wanted a camera that I could use at concerts that would take good pictures no matter where my seat was and I found it. I went to a concert in June and my seat was no where near the stage. I was about in the middle of the venue and when the band took the stage I zoomed in to 80x and well as my sister put it she was able to see the nose hairs of the lead singer. I was afraid because I read alot about concert photography and the stressed changing the ISO but I set it to auto and it worked great.
Pros: easy to use, excellent image quality, Good Low-Light Performance

After much research I chose the Sx10. I compared many manufacturers and they all have similar features. This camera is unbelievable . If you want to shoot a certain thing, it has a preset. Not much searching. 10 meg pixels helps a lot with the quality. I have had members of our historical society, comment on the quality and color reproduction. I love this camera but what helped me decide was the rotating display. Using if for shooting from odd angles helps with frame centering and focus. I used to go through battaries in about an hour on my other camera. I purchased rechargables and I have gone days now without having to change them out. The lens reaches out over 500 mm. I dont like the shake when beyond the lens reach while using the digital zoom. Tripod is a must for that. Automatic white balance, with the different settings for places you may find yourself taking pictures, is top notch. Surface mounted buttons are easily accessable but not easily activated by mistake. Enough already. GO GET ONE.
Pros: easy to use, Simple controls/menu, Nice features/settings, Bright LCD, excellent image quality, Good Low-Light Performance, Lightweight/Portable, good battery life, durable, cost to features ratio, fits the hand without blocking sensors or lights.
Cons: could have some rubber surfaces for safer grip.

Alaska Tough

Having traveled with this camera through most of Alaska, it is definitely the camera for getting those great travel shots. Quick access to video to capture whales breaching, or grizzly bears in Denali; incredible zoom capabilities makes bringing those far off critters up close and personal. I do wish it had a remote for tri-pod operations.
Pros: easy to use, Nice features/settings, excellent image quality, good battery life, durable
Cons: Missing features/settings

Got the camera on 12-15-08 and have played around quite abit...this replaces my canon A-620 (not completely will keep it for back packing). Love the VARI-ANGLE LCD!! Same feature as my A620. Only con is the lens cap has no tether (it does have a clip on the backside)and doors for usb and sd card seem a little flimsy. The zoom is amazing, I thought about a DSLR but did not want the hassle of hauling lenses. I am very happy so far and if it last as long as my A620 it will be awesome!
Pros: easy to use, Simple controls/menu, Nice features/settings, Bright LCD, excellent image quality, Good Low-Light Performance, good battery life, great zoom
Cons: Heavy/Bulky
