I bought the SX20is and was disappointed with the image quality, loved the HD video. I returned it and got the SX10is. Much better color quality and sharpness. This one is a keeper.
Pros: easy to use, excellent image quality, Good Low-Light Performance, good battery life

When I bought this camera, I was looking for a reative inexpensive digital camera to replace a point and shoot one. My requirements were versatility with as much manual control packed in as possible, ease of use, low initial cost and the ability of continued use over long periods of time. I also did not want a DSLR as I am handicapped and would not always be able to carry extra lenses, filters, etc so I was looking also for a relative light camera.
Much research online and locally for a camera that would fulfill those needs was done. I was preparing for a vacation to travel from my home in the midwest to California and back taking nearly a month to wander around the southern United States on the way and back. This camera seemed to fit the bill.
First I would like to say my research paid off hamsomely. I carried the camera, a battery charger, three sets of batteries and five SD cards. I recharged the spent batteries each evening and downloaded the SD cards used that day to a laptop computer. There was not one problem encountered. The photos of the trip were beautiful and are memories that will remind me of that once in a lifetime trip.
One complaint I read about the SX10 IS during my search was it was heavy. It does have some heft to it and may not fit one who is used to small point and shoot cameras, but I found the weight to be an asset. This gives the camera the feel of the last SLR I owned and with the anti-shake on, I felt it gave me a steadier hand for those long, long shots in precipitious mountain climes. Another complaint stated was the use of the wheel (dial) on the back of the camera for choosing specific settings for those of us with fat fingers. I did not find this a problem and my fingers are certainly not small by anyone's immagination.
My only complaint is the lack of a low battery warning light or beep or anything. Unless I have missed how to turn it on, I don't believe there is one.
Overall, I am extremely satisfied with this camera. I would recoment it or its successor (the SX20 IS) to anyone looking for a digital non-SLR. It also makes a perfect second or third or fourth camera that will quickly become one of choice.
Pros: good battery life, Good Low-Light Performance, excellent image quality, durable, Bright LCD, Simple controls/menu, easy to use, good instructional book
Cons: Missing features/settings, Heavy/Bulky

Best Purchase Ever

I have only had this camera a week but am totally blown away with the qaulity of the pictures and videos and the ease of use. There are many features that seem complicated but with use and practice they will become easy. The weight is expected for a quality product and containing 4 AA batteries but I feel the battery life is much better than most rechargables on the market. As far as the lense cap issue, there are after market lense caps with attached lanyards that will fit this camera and work well. Don't let this missing item keep you from this camera. This is the best product by far and I feel we're going to have many happy years of use...something to grow into.
Pros: easy to use, Simple controls/menu, Nice features/settings, Bright LCD, excellent image quality, Good Low-Light Performance, good battery life, durable
Cons: Heavy/Bulky, lense cap

Next step- DSLR

I needed something that not only was feature rich but included a manual setting to enable me to learn how not to use a camera and this fit the bill. It was the 20x optical zoom that initially caught my eye and with a bit of practice I was able to take advantage of not only that but also many of the other features... as well this is the device that is enabling me to not be entirely incompetent with manual settings and focus as well as different light settings. For what I was looking for, "Difficult to use" may just as well have been in the Pros column though I may have left it unchecked.
This is a fine tool for honing a bit of photographic skill in order to better utilize my next purchase- a DSLR but there is a plethora of settings for those who simply wish to point and shoot. This is the best adornment I've graced my tripod with. A note of caution- keep careful track of the lens cap... also battery life seems to depend heavily on what type of battery is being used- this will eat through alkalines pretty quickly but disposable lithiums seem to last remarkably long
Pros: easy to use, Nice features/settings, Bright LCD, excellent image quality, Good Low-Light Performance
Cons: lens cap

Great camera...

This camera delivers on all it promises, but is not ideal for everyone. Several times I have had kids in poses I wanted to get on film only to miss it. To get the camera ready is not a chore, but it's also not pick up, point, and shoot.
The pictures are undenibly perfect once you get use to holding the picture button down a few seconds before officially snapping the shot. It's never blurry, and even on the highest capacity you can take thousands of shots with the smallest of SDHC cards.
Downloading to the PC is as simply as connecting and then turning on your camera. It dumps the pictures right into "My Pictures" on the PC so you can name and move as you see fit.
The only real issue I have had besides getting it ready in those "gotta get them now" moments is the camera bag. There's no decent camera bag designed to carry this model. They have some they claim to work, but they offer little storage for a user that may want to carry say a memory card, charger, or battery.
Overall the best camera I've ever had or used, and not a bad price point.
Pros: Bright LCD, excellent image quality, good battery life, good memory storage on sdhc cards
Cons: using in quick moments

Just got the camera for an early Christmas gift. The camera itself is fantastic. The lens cover does not have anything holding it on, it just clips to the strap. i lost the lens cover the first day as it doesn't clip on tight enough. Will be ordering two when i order a new one.
Pros: easy to use, Simple controls/menu, Nice features/settings, Bright LCD, excellent image quality, Good Low-Light Performance, Lightweight/Portable, good battery life, durable

Lovin' it!!

I have had the S1 IS, the S3 IS, and now the SX10 IS. Upping from the S3 was primarily to get the external flash hot shoe. I love these cameras because I can get great telephoto and super macro shots without having to invest $$$ in specialty lenses. I took action shots across the field at my Grandson's new sport, Lacrosse, with awesome clarity. The only thing that is an issue with this version of the camera is that the shutter snap delay is close to 1 second, requiring anticipation of the great shot... or shooting multiple frames to try to capture "the one"... thus my rating of 4 stars on Performance. I have taken shots 105 feet from the front of our church [from the balcony] both with a great flash that syncs to Canon, and without flash [tripod] with very acceptable results.
Pros: easy to use, Simple controls/menu, Nice features/settings, Bright LCD, excellent image quality, Good Low-Light Performance, Lightweight/Portable, good battery life, durable, do not need additional lense baggage!, adapter ring filters better lens cap available
Cons: a bit noisy above iso 400 in blow-ups, shutter delay excessive

Love this camera

I replaced my SX3is because of the many upgrades on the newer SX10is model. The photo quality is exceptional, my movies are better and the additional zoom is terrific. Having a flash shoe adds to my enjoyment of indoor shots as well as daylight fill in photos. The "I Contrast" and "in camera cropping" have proven themselves as valuable tools. Although I now have more features, the navigation is easier with the SX10is. I would love to be able to have my photo Voice Memos transmit with the photo via e-mail, I can't get that to happen yet, could be operator error. I have no trouble with the control buttons setup although when opening the LED viewfinder, with my large hands, I have accidentally activated the Macro feature I might suggest an indention at the bottom off the flip out to help prevent this. This camera has so many features I really recommend that the purchaser spend as much leisurely time learning what the camera is capable of before taking those irreplaceable photos, It will add so much to the enjoyment of the SX10is. I really have no complaints about this camera, I plan to keep it for a long time, it does everything I want a camera to do.
Pros: easy to use, Simple controls/menu, Nice features/settings, Bright LCD, excellent image quality, Lightweight/Portable, good battery life, durable, nice solid feel in my hands, professional apperance, very versitile no extra lenses to carry
Cons: not easy to add filters
