if youre looking for something to use,
i would recomend this (for startes anyway) i used to have the OLD ONE Canon powershot S2 is,
not worth buying
i mean it did SOME WORK, but,
my NEW ONE the SX10 IS,
wider screen and more functions
really worth the buy
the only con i WOULD say, is that it's
""Heavy/Bulky""
but other then that, well worth the buy
(if youre an AMATURE, then this is the way to go)
Pros: easy to use, Simple controls/menu, Nice features/settings, Bright LCD, excellent image quality, Good Low-Light Performance, good battery life, durable
Cons: Heavy/Bulky
I would recommend this to a friend!

no meter lock

I have had the SX10 IS for about a week and think the image quality is good. What I don't like about this camera is the fact that it will not save the spot mettering mode. Every time you turn the camera off then back on you have to go back into the menu and reset it back to Spot. This makes P mode almost useless. I don't know why Canon would do this. My other cameras keep the settings until there changed.
Pros: good battery life
Cons: Missing features/settings, can't lock spot mettering defaults back to center

Great Value

All the features without the DSLR price; used film Canon SLRs for 20yrs. If you can take better pictures with a DSLR, you are getting paid for it-professionally. Don't be fooled with the CCD sensor quality reviews, it's very good. Canon makes rugged cameras; I will buy a Canon DSLR when 20mp is the standard at the lower tier. I use a professional-style flash unit.
Pros: easy to use, Simple controls/menu, Nice features/settings, Bright LCD, excellent image quality, Good Low-Light Performance, Lightweight/Portable, good battery life, durable

A lot of camera for the money.

This is a very nice camera with many features. I like the 20x zoom lens and the fold out LCD screen. It takes very nice pictures. It is a very versatile camera in a small package. I don't want a bulky DSLR and have to carry around heavy and expensive lenses. Canon says that it has a 35mm equivalent 560mm zoom lens at the 20X . 560mm would mean that it brings an object 11 times closer than you see with your eye. That is quite an overstatement. When I have it zoomed all the way to 20X, it appears to bring that object in two or three times closer than with the naked eye. I was disappointed with that and also very disappointed with the mickey mouse lens hood. It is very annoying trying to get it lined up just right, so that it will go on. It takes several attempts to get it on. It feels like it is going to get stripped soon. Other than these two beefs, I like the camera very well. It does take 52mm lens filters.
Pros: Nice features/settings, Bright LCD, excellent image quality, good battery life
Cons: lousy lens hood connection, 560mm 35mm equivalent is a real stretch.

A Great Camera

This is an excellent camera that takes wonderful high-resolution pictures. One of my favorite pictures I've taken was of a juggler in a parade using sports mode, and every single ball he is juggling is captured in mid-air with no motion blur whatsoever. In the same parade, I got a picture of a friend on a float from a distance of about 100 ft and got a super close-up face shot even from that distance.
The video mode is also excellent, and shoots broadcast quality video. Coupled with a good editing package, you can make your own TV shows using this camera.
Pros: easy to use, excellent image quality

Great camera. I have only had it for 2 days but it is great. I like the zoom range and the digital zoom. It also takes great macro pics. I bought this mainly for work where I will be taking close up shots of failed mechanical parts but also wanted a good camera for zooming in on cool stuff while on vacation. The included cd is helpful for guiding you through the functions if you have a little patience. Also the bulk is not a problem. I was looking for a camera that could not easily be lost in a pocket and ran through the wash. It also makes it easier to keep your fingers from being in the way of the flash and lens. I also like that the view screen pivots so it can be protected or let you see what you are shooting at different angles. Well worth the money spent and a quick set up. I was snapping pics within 5 mins of opening the box.
Pros: size/bulk, close up shots, long zoom range, easy for beginners, good value, view screen is protected
Cons: manual flip flash

Great Camera! I've been looking for a camera that has the color accent/color swap feature. This one works great and I didn't have to purchase expensive, complicated software to achieve the single color pictures I wanted to create. Takes great pictures in every mode so far that I've tried.
Pros: Nice features/settings, excellent image quality

my first digital camera

I love this camera. It was easy to learn how to operate, although there is much more to study before I can take full advantage of the many features available.
My first efforts produced some excellent photos of birds, clear and crisp images with superb color.
There are only two additional options I could want.
First is a "hood" or other device to shade the screen. It is difficult to see anything but one's own image on a bright, sunny day.
Second, I would like a strap that would allow me to hang the camera around my neck. I found it difficult to manage both camera and binoculars with only a wrist strap on the camera.
PS: The image stabilizer is a fantastic feature for those of us with shaky hands
Pros: easy to use, Simple controls/menu, Nice features/settings, Bright LCD, excellent image quality, durable
Cons: Missing features/settings
