easy, friendly to use. The swing Lcd is a nice feature. The

Some are haveing problems with the lens cover. I just bought a cap keeper 1. Find them in most camera shop.

Has some major annoyances
on March 6, 2009

Pros:
*Really outstanding image quality
*Holds detail in light (white) areas of the picture well.
Major anoyannces, IMO:
*After a picture is taken, the electronic viewfinder / display blanks out for about 1.5 seconds. This makes it hard to track your subject. It doesn't seem to make any difference if you reduce the resolution...for example, from 10MB to 6 MB.
*Adjusting the exposure compensation is a real pain. First you need to press a small button which is inset...you've got to make sure your thumb is right over it and press hard. Then you need to turn the dial with your thumb. If you turn it slowly, it doesn't register. If you turn it fast, it's easy to press... and then an unwanted menu pops up, since the dial also functions as the 4-way controller. Meanwhile, the photo op has passed......
*I find that when I move my thumb around so much adjusting exposure compenstation, I have to flex my wrist a lot. After a short outing my wrist aches...the camera weighs about 1.5 lbs with batteries.
*That dial is real pain for setting anything, not just the exposure compensation, for the reasons noted above. Canon, please take note! In general, a gentle button press is much more ergonomic, more natural, and easier on tendons & ligament than rotating a dial with the thumb.
Minor annoyances:
*I find that the default color setting is a bit artificial. For more natural color, go into MY COLORS, and reduce the saturation.
*The shortest review time you can set is 2 seconds. A one-second interval would be welcome. In the camera's defense, in single shot mode, if you keep the shutter button depressed after you take a picture, it automatically goes into review mode, and you can release it as quickly as you like.
*The camera sometimes gives up auto focusing in low-light when zoomed in.
*I use the electronic viewfinder a lot...with the display closed, one is forced to jam one's nose into the back of the camera to get close to the viewfinder.
Pros: Nice features/settings, excellent image quality, good battery life, durable, good peformance in highlight areas
Cons: Heavy/Bulky, rotating dial difficult to control

Good Camera but uses lots of batteries.

I have had this camera for a year. I am not a camera buff but this camera is very good for the "normal person" and likely beyond. It has a great zoom and the picture quality seems very good. Some settings seem cumbersome like flash settings but most very easy. I like the ability to use AA batteries but it eats these up and it is very frustrating. I have tried top end batteries and recchargables with even less life.
Pros: easy to use, Nice features/settings, Bright LCD, durable
Cons: Short battery life

Best Point and Shoot in the Canon Line
on November 3, 2008

Bought the A590 last week and after talking to a friend, returned it to Best Buy today. Walked out with the SX10 IS and immediately went to work using it. Great camera, in my opinion! The 20x optical zoom really made the difference when needing a good tight shot on landscapes, flora or fauna. Had been borrowing a friends Rebel XT, now I don' t need to.
Plus, I've always been happy with the Canon Point and Shoot series and this one gives me the creative edge I need without going SLR. Just can't quite afford one yet. Even on superfine I can fit almost 500 images on one 2gig card.
I guess to wrap this up, a very nice addition to the Canon Point and Shoot line without breaking the bank.
Pros: easy to use, great features
Cons: no raw image setting

Great but could be better

I have had the camera for about a month and have used it for for stills and also some video. The onboard flash is good for most pictures, I wish it had an auto raise on the flash though. Make sure you have a good quality set of batteries if you are doing a lot of flash photography.
My main with this camera is there is not an option for it to put the date and time on the picture. You can do it after the fact using the camera software but it will not do it for you.
Pros: easy to use, Nice features/settings, Bright LCD, excellent image quality, Good Low-Light Performance, durable
Cons: Missing features/settings, Short battery life, does not print the date and time on the picture
I would recommend this to a friend!

Most Versatile Camera Ever
on December 9, 2009

from Bartlesville, OK
This is the most versatile camera I have, with its 28mm to 560 mm super zoom. It is light, compact, easy to carry and powerful. I have used it to photograph two high school football games, one under the lights, one in a bright sun. I took more than 700 photos in these two games. I miss RAW but the images are excellent, second only to my Canon G10 for bridge cameras. It uses 4 AA batteries and goes through alkalines so I have switched to lithium (more expensive but much more usage). It accepts Canon flashes so when I am not satisfied with the built-in, I use an EX-580II but, that adds more weight to my hands and can cause me some clumsy accidents. I never shoot without a strap around my neck so I haven't dropped it, but I have made some errors and had to re-shoot a scene. I have suggested this camera to several people for an upgrade to what they have. It is complicated for those who truly want a point & shoot but it's fine for my needs. I have two Canon D-SLR's so this is an addition but one that complemented what I have and what I do. Like my G10, this is small and light and I can carry it through long treks, such as car shows. When I turn it sideways to shoot portraits, I have hit the "movie" button a few times and I've learned to think before I shoot so this control seems poorly placed to me. It would help if could be disengaged.
Pros: Nice features/settings, excellent image quality, durable, Bright LCD, Lightweight/Portable, Simple controls/menu, easy to use, versatile
Cons: Short battery life, some controls poorly located

Crystal Clear Images!! !! !!

I'm 16 years old and have little professional training but while using the Canon Powershot SX10IS the drive and passions to take amazing photos come strait from the camera. As soon as you open the box you have such an intense drive to take photos ans with each and every snap of the shutter, life is captured! Not just a still image but an image of your family and friends having fun, or some summer time fun at the lake, memories that will last a lifetime and are much clearer then the naked eye! If you have little experience with digital cameras, start with Canon because they have easy to learn control/settings and even though it will take some time to get used to, it is worth the effort! The large LCD screen is perfect of taking clear pictures anytime, anywhere even if your unacstomed to the view finder. And the swivel screen is perfect for taking photos of you and your friends, so you will always have the perfect pose. This is by far the best birthday present my parents could have ever got me!
Pros: easy to use, Simple controls/menu, Nice features/settings, Bright LCD, excellent image quality, Good Low-Light Performance, Lightweight/Portable, durable, crystal clear photos, great black & whites, the perfect camera for action photos
Cons: best if you buy rechargeable batteries

Excellent camera

What I like:
• Rotated LCD screen – very convenient
• Regular AA batteries
• High quality images and great colors
• Great zoon – 20x
• Weight is ok– I did not want to carry too many things or too heavy item
• Macro focus works very well
• Choice of pre-configured settings
Not very convenient:
• The lenses cap is not attached to the camera and I already lost it despite it was attached to the strap
• It was difficult to figure out how to setup super-macro. I followed the instructions (pressing the macro button for several seconds), but still it changed only from normal to regular macro. After multiple tries I realized that super-macro does not work with Auto (not documented).
• Looking through the visor is very blurry and dark – I do not have this problem with my older PowerShot A80.
Pros: Simple controls/menu, Nice features/settings, excellent image quality, Good Low-Light Performance
Cons: Heavy/Bulky
