It's never a good time to lose power. You can expect problems during a storm but it is the unexpected downing of a local power pole that totally catches you off guard and in the middle of an important project on our computer. A UPS gives you that time to save your work and shutdown your hardware. The other critical component is protecting your equipment from a surge that can fry your hard drive, which is more costly in time to repair than the cost of the device. The Smart1000 quietly does it's job behind the scene.

This product worked well for 3 years, but then quit working. Will not perform self test, and provides no backup in power outages. Will also turn off on its own even without power outage.
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

This smart UPS has solved me a lot. In a area where I live the electricity goes out 4 to 5 times in a month without no reason. This UPS protects my main PC desktop, external hard drives and LAN router. Cant survive without it. As a matter of fact I owe 2 of them. The other UPS is on my stereo and LCD TV.
