The color prints from the Epson R1900 are great. From my firts print I could see the difference from the R1800.
Right out of the box, set up was easy and performance excellent.

I love this printer. I own a custom stationery design company and do some in house printing. I have always loved Epson printers, but this is even better with the pigment based inks! I am able to print on a variety of media and create large format items for clients. The versatility for this price point is unsurpassed in the printer market. Would definitly recommend to anyone!

i use only 5 or 4 star epson papers, epson inks, and epson profiles...i use lightroom exclusively and have never had a problem...i print mostly on 8.5 x 10, 13x19 and lots of times on 13 x 44 roll paper...these images come out exactly like they should...i am finicky about sharpness and color reproduction as matched by my monitor (which is calibrated)...the ONLY problem i would admit to is the amount of ink it uses and the fact that in hawaii there is no dealer that carries this ink...i always have to have it shipped in. i would suggest using only the best papers that epson offers, profiles and inks.
it makes a huge difference when using other combinations as they are just not set up for epson exclusively and you will not be satisfied...

R1900

I purchased this printer due to having a worn out R1800 that I determined was more costly to repair than purchasing a new/newer model with all new insides. I have only had this new printer a day or two and had not used it for photographic work yet so I printed a picture from my files that I had previously printed on the 1800. The process was straight forward, but I missed the preview option, which was probably the fault of PS CS5, which is new also, and not Epson. I selected an 8.5 x 11.0 print size and borderless printing, but I got a border on both sides and the top of the print. ??? I am not particularly happy with the color rendition, perhaps due to the change from blue to orange ink, but I may have to aclimate myself to the differences in processing. I do like the printer controls on the top, and the appearance of the 1900. It remains to be seen how it affects my photography work.

This printer produces excellent quality. I have no complaints at all.
Buyers should know however, that ink usage is very high. I have printed approximately 24 8x10s, using gloss optimizer and Epson Vivid, at high quality. I have completely emptied one gloss optimizer, 90% empty on Photo Black, and 50% empty on all other colors.

Fair Value, not good or excellent

Expect to replace inks on a daily basis even if you are printing no more than 10 8x10's. Quality of the print is good, but a very poor cost to quality ratio. I have already replaced inks three times on my first 25 prints. Overall, disappointing on the cost ratio, but good print quality in the end.
Outsourcing to a quality shop is the best plan for photographers.

pretty good but not for heavy use

the colors are indeed good. cartridges are very small. I've had numerous issues with print heads clogging. It requires a lot of ink to clean the heads. Also after a while (after numerous cleanings) the machine reaches the end of useful life cycle with ink staying in the bottom of the machine. There is no maintenance tank. For the price of a new machine you can have this fixed. Another example of waste, profit over quality, disregard for the environment. Had two of these machines. Won't be getting a third.

Disappointed with ink usage

The second time I used the printer it stopped and indicated that the print carriage was jammed, prompting me to cancel the print job, shut the unit off, and restart it. After finding nothing obstructing the carriage and going through this procedure four times, with the printer cleaning its print heads every time, it finally began to print, but the ink cartridges were indicated as all but empty.
The specs indicated an average of 915 pages per cartridge but I've printed about 30 pages and apparently need to replace them already. And I haven't even printed a photo yet...
