I followed the installation instructions line by line. The printer will connect and print about 1 out of 5 times.

When it worked, it made great prints but first who's idea was it at epson to make the printer stop printing if 1 of the 8 cartridges are empty?
This is a true photo only printer. If you want to print everyday text or internet pages look elsewhere.
The head cleaning feature sucks the cartridges dry.
I tried 2 aftermarket refill kits but that only made things worse. Now i get either clogged nozzles, air trapped or bleeding. All to avoid the inflated prices of cartridges. I wish I never bought this printer.

Epson Stylus Photo R1900 Ink Jet Printer

This photo printer has been good to me over the few years I have had it. The Ink supply last for a while not requiring frequent refills. The prints produced are equal to that if you were getting them done through Snapfish. Yea, I hope to get plenty of more years out of this photo printer.

Epson 1900 good, but not perfect.

Overall this printer does a good job, particularly on glossy paper.
Pros--fast; excellent glossy prints. Very good job on most papers I have tried.
Cons- For many photos it does the best job I have seen to date. But this printer can be a challenge with the color green. The ink tanks are ridiculously small and the fine art paper feed is a challenge.
I believe part of the color problem is a need to tweak the profiles. The color problem is the specific reason I have rated the printer a 3, rather than a 4. The monitor is calibrated.

We had a 1800 and it died. Gosh that was the worse day ever in my life!! I haven't been able to print a decent print on matte since that day. This printer has no idea what a decent green is!! OMG if I could just get my 1800 back!!!
Oh and it sucks ink down like it's gulping down a milk shake!!!
If anyone has an 1800 that works.. let me know.
Normally I would recommend Epson but not this make and model

Outstanding Choice

I have used several printers in the last 10 years, my last was an Epson R380 six color which does a great job, but the difference between it and the R1900 is amazing. The red & orange & blacks are noticeably better with the 8 color system. The two blacks, matte & photo bring out the subtle grays & blacks better than a black only system. The only downside so far is that depending on your printer's default settings, you need to pay attention or you may apply the gloss optimizer to a plain sheet printed in black text only. Buy extra gloss optimizer as it flood coats gloss sheets with it, like a varnish coat in offset printing, really sets off the color.

PRINTS are outstanding quality! Ink hog

I bought the R1900 end of March 2010. I am writing this review now to help others make a decision, but my review is based on only a couple of months of use. So far I absolutely LOVE this printer! Everything I have printed so far has turned out beautiful. The colors are vibrant and realistic. My husband and I like the quality of prints from this printer better than taking to our nearest photo lab. Prints better than our previous Kodak 4x6 printer too. Much better. One thing to keep in mind, is that it really does make a difference as to which paper type you select and which paper you are using. I have tried various settings and papers and found it is really important to get the right combination. Once you get it to what you want, write it down on a cheat sheet. I have been able to use the Sheet feeder for anything from regular paper to canvas with no problems. Easy to use any size of paper, go from 4x6 to 11x17 very easily. My only issues, so far, with this printer are the following: USES A LOT OF INK! Believe everything you read in the reviews, this is one heck of an ink hog. I had another Epson that used a lot of ink, but this thing really goes through ink fast. The draft mode is perfect for making sure your project lines up correctly, that is the only reason to use the draft mode. Using the paper roller is very difficult. I gave up. It's located in the back, you have to feed it just right, and you have to feed it while also touching the computer keyboard to hit the print button. Very tricky. Not something I was going to use a lot anyway, so not too disappointed. This is a great printer for photographs or large signs, note cards, etc... However, I would advise having a second inkjet or laser for everyday printing. This uses too much ink for everyday printing. My previous Epson CX4200 had an issue a couple of times not recognizing ink cartridges, but it wasn't a regular occurrence. I'm hoping this R1900 doesn't have that problem like some people are experiencing. I have replaced the cartridges several times, and so far no problems. I would recommend this product if you want a printer that prints beautiful pictures, but make sure you always have extra ink on hand. Epson ships ink out fast though and have been very happy with their service. Would be 5 stars except for ink issues. PROS: EXCELLENT photos, and everyday graphics, quiet, fast to start up, FAST printing especially considering the quality. CONS: Ink usage AND if the ink needs replacing it WILL NOT PRINT until you replace the ink cartridge. If another needs replacing right after that, again you have to replace. That can be a real pain. Another con is the feature where you enter a user/custom size for printing. I really wish that were easier to use, as I still have not gotten that right. In the end, I LOVE THIS PRINTER and the quality is outstanding.

Very disappointed

I rarely write reviews, but my frustration with this product is palpable. I loved my Epson Stylus Photo 1280 for years and eventually wore it out, replacing it with this. What a let down. After exchanging the first model I received because of problems, I continue now to have chronic print quality issues due to print head problems. This thing also eats ink like a monster. Most of the positive reviews here were probably written by people who'd barely used the thing. Think twice! Or thrice!
