so far so good

I haven't really used my printer for any big projects yet, but I'm hopeful it will be as dependable and accurate as my 1280. So far it has done the routine printing jobs well. Setting it up was easy. I do a lot of big picture printing, both photos and art work and I'm looking forward to good results. Epson has not let me down yet.

Annoying and temperamental printer

I miss my 1280!!!!!!!!!!! It was the easiest to use and care for. I bought this because I wanted to make archival pigment prints. It seems that every time I try to print I need to replace the gloss optimizer (I only print matte) go figure...
The hand feed is annoyingly temperamental sometimes it takes the paper, others it doesn't. This is super bothersome since I'd like to be able to print on special media. When I do finally get the prints out- they are nice but not worth all of this time wasting. I'm super disappointed with this item and this is the first negative review I have ever had to make for an Epson product as I'm a long time Epson customer, at least 15 years.

Stylus Photo R1900

I was assured it was the best printer for photographs and now that I've worked with it I'll have to disagree. It's missing the clarity and sharpness that the Artisan 810 has and I'll probably end up returning it. I also have the Stylus R2880 and I have the same lack of clarity with the color prints...but it's great with black and whites, which is why I've kept it.

R1900 Does the Job
on September 22, 2010

By the final measure -- ptint quality for photos -- the R1900 is superb. I do not use it for general text printing -- nor do I understand why anyone would buy it for that. I wish Epaon made the 5-star Ultra Premium Glossy in 13x19, and hope they do. Paper handling has been a little perpelexing getting started and there seems to be an inordinate amount of "back & forthing" before the first print. I have also had some difficulty getting the ink carriage to return to the loading position, but will bone up on the instructions before I gripe too loudly. But the output is stunning -- and that's MOST important.

My R320 started to band in the areas where Black was used and wouldn't unclog after repeated attempts to clean the Printhead. After many years of great service it was time to replace Her. I have never owned anything but Epson Printers since the 80s. I looked into an 8.5" printer and all Epson had was the Artisan 80, not for me, so I started to look at the Wide Printers, 1100, no cd/dvd, I print at least 5 DVDs a week, 1400, I have an R800 and R2400 ( B&W Photos ) the 1400 didn't do much for me either. Started to zero in on the R1900 and am I glad I did. So far all I have used it for is 4x6 and 5x7 Prints (a lot) they are Lab Quality. Plus with the rebate and what I paid for this Printer it turns into a real good deal. Anyone looking for a Color Photo Printer, wide or otherwise, look no more.
