I had read many reviews on the Artisan 800 before I purchased it and also after as I had to wait to get my hands on it since it was a Christmas present. Most of the reviews were good but there were a few that kind of had me concerned. The day after Christmas I was finally able to get my hands and eyes on this AIO and I remembered the issues that some folks had with the install. One thing I did before I wrapped the printer up in Christmas wrapping paper was to pull the documentation out so I could at least read about the install and how to's and that helped I think. I had read through the documentation a couple times before I got to install it on a wired network and I can say there were no issues, the install went perfect. Some of the reviews I read talked about how flimsey parts of the printer and I can say some of it is not as hard as steel but I thought the quality was good enough. I then started putting the printer through it's features and I didn't have any issues loading paper or having problems with paper jams. It worked just as it was expected to. The quality of the photos and documents are just great. I even printed on a few CDs and on the first one I did I had a hard time telling the difference between the original I had scanned in and the copy. The quality is just that good with true color reproduction. The only feature I haven't fully tested is the fax. I did try to send a fax to a friend that I knew has a fax but the person answered the phone because their receive fax is not working but I could hear the faxing process and the usual fax noise that you hear so I'm sure it will work fine. In one of the reviews I did read that to scan to PC and scan to PDF does not work when you have your printer connected through the wireless or wired networks and that is ture, it only works when you have the printer connected to your computer by the USB cable. You don't have any problem controlling your scans from the printer to the PC using the software on the computer so you still have that capability. I did a business card project for a customer for about 20 different people and the heavy business card stock processed without any problems and the customer commented how great the printing was on the cards. I love this printer and I'm a happy camper to have selected this AIO as my next printer. Oh, one thing I forgot to mention, when I did the first scan I was looking at the Artisan 800 waiting for it to scan and I thought it was taking a long time but when I turned my head to look at the computer screen the image was already there so I did a few more scans to see what I missed and the scanning is very quick and extremely quiet. Go Epson.

Best AIO I've owned to date

I've had the Artisan 800 now for a couple months or more, and agree with some of the previous reviewers about the flimsy paper tray, but other than that I've been really happy and it's producing incredible prints for an AIO. I did go through a "learning curve" with this printer. One issue I was having was it pulling in multiple sheets. I discovered that the problem was usually due to the slider in the paper tray not being set in the proper position for the paper size. It needs to be spot on, then it will typically grab one sheet at a time as expected. The other problem I had early on was not being able to get borderless prints when printing through PS or Aperture. It worked fine when printing directly off of a CF card. Then I began cropping my images in PS to 5x7 (or whatever) and the issue disappeared. Seems the printer can handle a non standard or slightly off image size when printing from a CF card, but not in software. So make sure you crop your image to the correct size ratio in your editing software first before printing and you shouldn't have a problem. I also bought the add on duplexer and it works like a charm. Faxing is great, scanning is great, printing is fast, and accurate, and the networking works great. Did I mention it's FAST! It is a bit noisy, but doesn't bother me that much once I see the results. I've always trusted Epson to my printing and am not disappointed with this purchase in the least. Highly recommended!

Great Product

I did a lot of research and read reviews for several products/manufacturers. Because I do a lot of photography, I finally decided to go with the Epson Artisan 800 for the photo quality. The picture resolution was double the others I was considering and after printing several pictures for the past two weeks I can say they are great--better than the ones I had taken to a lab, much sharper and true to color. The HD picture quality claim is true! I have tried everything on it and it all works great. I just love the notepad feature and have printed several pages for two birthdays this month. Contrary to some reviews, this printer is very quiet and although the out-paper tray is flimsy, I know to be very careful, just like I would have to be with other products I have looked at. The set up went well, everything worked on cue. I have been getting a lot of pictures out of the ink with just the standard capacity ink it came with. I am very pleased and would highly recommend this product.

I previously stated the Artisan 800 didn't handle card stock or thick paper well. That was before I found a setting that wasn't in the manual or easy to find. For "Thick paper & envelopes", go to Control Panel, double click Printers & Faxes. RIGHT CLICK on Artisan 800 Series, select "Properties" and click it. Click the "Printing Preferences" button. Click on the "Maintenance" tab. Click the "Printer & Option Information" button. At the bottom there is a check box for "Thick Paper & Envelopes". Make sure it is checked or unchecked depending on your printing needs. Close all Epson windows, and start printing. Like I said it wasn't easy to find, and I hope it helps. I'm still satisfied with the printer after 3 months.

I like my artisan 800 very well. It seems to work perfect, except for one thing!!!!! I can't seem to send my pictures e-mail to anyone. I can't even make a web site. It seems png, JPEG, or static gif files are not included in the format of this printer. I have been told this is an generic problem with all epsons. is this true. Is there anyone out there?? mockinbird

Great all-in-one printer

I looked long and hard before I bought my Artisan 800 all-in-one printer. Color and black and white photos look simply great and, if the photo needs any changes, the included software provides a large latitude in photo revision. Regular paper copies and prints are simple to print. The fax capabilities are quite easy to use. Epson technical support has been superb in assisting me in starting up and in doing some of the more creative things available with the Artisan 800. The ink cartridges have lasted much longer than I heard they would, particularly using the 98 series high-capacity ink cartridges. I only wish the 98 series cartridges were available locally instead of being available from Epson only. The scan-and-print included software is quite intuitive and easy to use. I also have the optional duplexer add-on and it works flawlessly. The included scanning program includes “Correct Document Skew” and “Create Searchable PDF” options that I find extremely helpful. Printing to CDs and DVDs is a tremendous feature and is a big help to organizing my disks. My long-and-hard look for an all-in-one printer was worth the effort once I bought my Artisan 800.

too much ink

This sucker goes through ink like teens go through soda and chips. It isn't worth it and the ink is so expensive. Too bad because the quality of the prints are great. Almost too great. You won't be able to hide anything with this printer, even the shadows print out as shadows and not a dark blur.
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

Epson 800 issues

Try copying a set of 8" x 11' documents where the first is oriented portrait and the second in landscape using the ADF. The landscape page will be 8.5" x 14. There is a work around.
The second issue is when trying to do double-sided copying or scanning. The way I found that would work easily depends on the Epson scanning software being modified.
It needs to allow appending of a suffix to the pages so that pages can be scanned so that you can scan the pages as img001a.pdf and img001b for side a and b. Then you can combine with Acrobat professional into a single file. The free program Rename Master can be used as a work-around. If Epson alloed suffixes, this could be very trivial to copy and scan a two sided document.
The scanner skews pages easily.
The documents OCR'ed with the included software are not as small when compared with Acrobat Professional.
It would be cool if you could fax directly to the printer with a printer driver or even receive faxes to the memory card.
Needing to have all the inks before you can print black is a problem.
Maybe Epson could create a slide attachement where you place it on the platen and have a way to turn off the internal light and use the external one in the attachment.
