I do not like this cooling pad, All it does is get hot and it doesn't even help my laptop stay cool. the laptop just keeps getting hotter and hotter. and it doesnt keep my lap cool either. i am currently using this product right and and i is NOT WORKING. I wish i hadn't bought this product :/

Great product

I used one of these for over 3 years before the crystals deteriorated to where they don't draw much heat out anymore. As a gamer, I got a lot of help from it- first on a Dell Latitude 810 and now with an Alienware M11x (and those little buggers get H-O-T!).
You DO have to use a little bit of thinking & effort with it, b/c if you just slap it under your laptop & leave it all the time, you'll get the heating issues a couple of other reviewers panned it for. Instead, I found it works best if you leave it out until the laptop starts getting warm enough to affect performance, then sllide it under and let it draw the excess heat out (which it will do at an appreciable rate). Once the crystals have gone completely (or mostly) to gel, take it out and set it aside to cool off- it'll be ready by the time you should need it again. If you also use a fan-cooling pad with it, you'll get even better cooling overall, but you'll have to put up with the fan noise. If you want both quiet AND something that cools no matter how long you leave it under, then you'll just have to wait for a water-cooled pad to hit the market (or build your own *grin*).
Another reviewer panned this item for blocking fan intakes & other airflow holes. While I agree it should have one corner "cut-out" to make room for an underside fan intake, covering the rest of the underside is not an issue if you're only putting it under when needed. In fact, the pad is flexible enough that you can fold part of it if needed and only lay it in contact with the hottest surfaces on the underside of your machine. Or you can offset it to one side, forwards, rotate it partially, etc. to fit whatever parts you want to leave exposed. Just because the pad and your laptop are both rectangles doesn't mean you're under some contractural obligation to always line them up the same way :)
All told, well worth the price. Thumbs up.
Pros: no noise, no power needed, easy to pack & carry
Cons: should have "cut-out" corner for fan intakes

Not quite what I expected

Two things about it i noticed one the material sits too close to my bottom of my laptop covering up the air holes for my ram and hard drive bay. i have a gaming style laptop and it generates a lot of heat so much so that the pad actually holds the heat in on my laptop and it will randomly shutdown because it over heated. the Second thing is the crystals in it need to remain level when cooled down or they'll collect to one side of the mat. I wouldn't recommend it for gamers, or anyone who uses their laptop on the go a lot.
Pros: its quiet and portable
Cons: not great for long periods of use
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

I got this as bundle with my laptop order. It works great keep everything cool, and allows breathing room for my laptop. Only con is that the pads exterior material is pretty slick, so on a lap you need to make sure it wont slide. i generally use it when im on the bed and it works good. I dont like fans because of the noise, so this is perfect for me. My computer does not generate that much heat anyways so lucky me!
Pros: works!
Cons: slick surface

we have Alienware laptops at our company. we use the wire stands at our desks but when you are on the road these pads are great. through attrition we are down to just mine. the other employees saw it and we just order 10 more off EBay. they are not designed for several hours of use but 2-3 hours and our Alienware heaters have NO issues and we are in Alabama in the summer.
Cons: not a long time solution over 3 hrs get a stand
