cheap parts in ice maker

We bought this for our new house 7 yrs ago and had to buy new parts for the ice maker within 3-4 yrs as plastic parts on cork screw device broke which in turn leaves clear pieces of plastic within the ice. Also the water dispenser is useless because the water freezes before it can be dispensed. At least they aren't making this model anymore but won't buy a GE again.
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

No Issues... Until it Died!

We purchased this model in 2009. It's attractive and had a number of nice features for the price. We liked that no finger prints showed on the stainless steel finish, the side-by-side doors and the in-door ice & water dispenser. We had no issues for our six (6) years of ownership until it completely died. Cost to repair estimate exceeds cost of a new refrigerator. Six years is the shortest life of any refrigerator we have ever owned.

From day one this refrigerator gave us trouble. While we have a 20+ year old fridge going strong in the basement, this 7 year old fridge died on Christmas Day. We have had to make repairs on it beginning just days outside the warranty period.

Horrible build quality

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Where to start with this thing?
- Exterior faux stainless steel scratches easily.
- Exterior ice tray is chromed plastic. Within a year, it became so discolored and ugly that we just removed it altogether.
- Interior shelves and bins are flimsy plastic and break easily. Even though they are obviously cheaply made, they are paradoxically expensive to replace. We've just gotten used to the upper bin being broken.
- Door water faucet is slow to the point that we usually just get water from the tap.
- Freezer frequently makes groaning noises loud enough to be heard from upstairs.
Bottom line... stay away.

Have both fridge and freezer on coldest settings and freezer can't freeze ice cream and the fridge feels like a late spring day in Houston. Ice takes forever to make and constantly jams.

Great fridge. Shoddy ice maker

We bought this fridge when we moved to our new home in 2009. Luckily I bought an extended warranty because they have come out at least 4 times maybe 5, I've lost count.
Now the the darn ice maker is not working again after the extended is expired and it doesn't qualify as a "lemon"
Looking forward to going to battle.

Over all I like this refrigerator/freezer. There is only one issue, that being the freezer doesn't drain. When it defrosts water collects in the bottom and at some point leaks out onto the floor. We have had this for a couple years and haven't been able to figure out the reason. We bought the same unit for our son and he doesn't have this problem.
I would recommend this to a friend!
