I live in Texas and work in Oklahoma City. Weather has to be constantly monitored; so it appears. The fear of hail has been causing me to sleep only a few hour a night during questionable weather. This radio massively improved my sleep. It has the added feature of GMRS communication. I have Midland GMRS radios in my both my cars, my truck, my motor cycle, and even my airplane. It's great for letting the little lady know where I am...hmmm. This radio gets great AM/FM reception and works great for us.

Bought this specifically for communication between hand sets and base. Live in a rural area, and was very surprised that the antenna picks up multiple stations - most radios in this area only receive NPR. 3 winds on the crank, with no battery, and the radio was playing. Midlands advertised this radio as using identical batteries with hand sets, but I still didn't understand the benefit of charging batteries from hand sets in the base camp with the crank . have to hand it to Midland!

Great product. Serves a a base camp setup and emergency radio at home. Only issue is that the battery indicator doesn’t flash when on the charger so I’m really not sure if the battery is charging or not.

Great little radio with good features. The AM- FM radio works very well as does the Weather radio. I like the fact that all communications can come through the radio itself or the hand mic. The only reason I didn’t give it five stars is there are no lights on the printed control panel or the top of the radio so at night you need a flashlight to operate. Other than that, it’s a sold little radio.

I replaced a previous generation Midland AM/FM/weather product with the XT511. The updated USB charging port provides better cell phone support, while still retaining the AM/FM/weather features and extends my family communications capabilities with our GXT1000 series handhelds. I also pull it out occasionally for use as a camping base-station, since I don't want to run my vehicle mounted system all the time on a recreational outing.

This was a must have for my hunting cabin where there is no cell service. We use GMRS handhelds when we are out but this stays in the cabin. It can be powered 5 different ways: AC plug, DC car adapter, alkaline batteries, rechargeable battery, and a hand-crank dynamo. It is perfect for emergencies and lets us monitor our GMRS channels from in the house when there are still some guys out hunting. It would be 5 stars if you could swap out the antenna for a higher gain antenna! Otherwise really great!
