Only if you need the longer focal length

The biggest complaint is the distinct lateral color (yellow/blue fringes at edges of objects), and that the focus goes past infinity, which seems to be standard sloppy manufacture with AF lenses. That German 100/2.0-ZE makro (cannot use name, but the informed reader will know) has no lateral color at all. The lateral color is easily visible on a 20 MP 5D2, is more pronounced on 50 MP 5DsR. If you don't need the longer focal length, rather do not use this lens for better image quality. But if you need a longer range macro, this is getting the shot, but will require more post-processing. Lens collar is helpful to balance rigs on tripod. The bayonet of plastic hood does not easily connect to lens and has odd friction. Locking metal bayonet would have been by far superior. I am surprised the plastic hasn't cracked yet.

Great Lens

Very pleased with this lens, sharp images, easy to use. The lens is a bit heavy and is more suited for use with a tripod, slow to focus, but that isn't an issue for me. Over all very happy with lens.
I would recommend this to a friend!

I bought this lens to focus on macro photography. I am not a professional photographer but I wanted my pictures look great. I saw one of the reviews saying it doesn't have this and that, its all written in specs and wonder why it was purchased. Any ways, I got great shots of flowers and butterflies. When I compared my shots with the professional photos, some of them are on par with them :-) (not bragging, it is true). Yes! it is heavy on CC and to hold as well, but I learned to use it without tripod for portraits. I don't think I would use any other lens for portraits except this. Once; I removed the tripod ring and had hard time to fix it. Then I realized I had to align the red dot same way as aligning red dot when changing the lens. Only the bad part is - all the compliments go to the lens than to the photographer, that makes me feel jealous :-)
Pros: Superior build quality, Super-sharp images
Cons: Slow auto-focus
I would recommend this to a friend!

Of course, macro is always with tripod or also with some focus adjuster. When this is heald steadily, images come up amazing. Again, you should balance depth of field with speed according to what the light allows!
Pros: Superior build quality, Super-sharp images

for having spent this much money i would think that an image stabilizer should be a built in feature. by not having one shooting without a tripod is not recommended. it also autofocuses painfully slow and the manual focus is soso at best. for Macro MF is generally the recommended approach. however this lens does lend itself to a bit further away shots than macro only i am not sure why it was adorned with the red band. certainly in my opinion not deserving. would not recommend it over the 100mm that is for very certain.
Cons: Semi-sharp images, Slow auto-focus, no is, mf is not all that great
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

This is a good lens to capture flowers and insects while staying far enough away to not interrupt your behavior. I tried using it on a sunset in a wild area and there was more lens flare than other lenses I own.
