Windows VISTA home basic

VISTA has gotten a bad rap from consumers, in my opinion ! I have installed 3- different versions...and all with NO problems ! Sure....there are 'some' games/peripherals that have NO drivers....but hey.... folks need to replace them most likely anyway! Upgrade to VISTA...any flavor...you will not be sorry ! Besides, the networking connectivity ease is worth the upgrade by itself !
Ken
What's great about it: this upgrade version of VISTA installed perfectly ! Upgraded an OEM PC with XP-Home SP2 installed....Still had my user data and applic. files left intact. Only took approx. 2-hrs to peform complete upgrade process ! Ken
What's not so great: NONE.

A nice upgrade from XP, with a few hiccups.
What's great about it: I was won over by the visuals and special FX. Love that translucent window and glow to the min, max and close buttons!
What's not so great: Get ready to reinstall several programs (sound, printer, etc.)

Great product!!
What's great about it: The media package that comes with Home Premium alone is worth the cost of the upgrade.
What's not so great: I had to upgrade the memory in my laptop in order to upgrade to Premium.

Move Over XP

I love the live desktop
What's great about it: Vista is probably the cleanest OS I've ever used. I was turned off by what I 'heard' Vista was like but then I learned to use it and it is easier than XP. I think a lot of the complaints come from those who have not learned the OS yet
What's not so great: Make sure you get enought memory on your system. Vista will hog 1gb

XP vs Vista
on May 15, 2009

My dads Dell desk top has windows XP on it and I recently purchased each of us a dell studio lap top for our b-days that have Vista. I was a little worried about making the change because I'm use to using Xp, I know where everything is and what it does. We've had lap tops for 2 months now and I prefer vista. Were both kind of new to PC's despite him having his desktop for years he's only proficient in burning DVDs. Vista is easier to use better features. I love how easy system restore is to use (having used it several times now) It's great for someone new to learning computers and trying new things. It has a lot of helpful programs for those new to computers and its easy to disable them for those who are'nt.I too had heard bad things about Vista. All in all I'm considering changing our XP desktop to Vista.
Cons: I didn't think the DVD burning programs it came with were easy to use...or maybe I'm just not use to using them. And it does have you second guess every downloading decision you make...but I think I remember it asking me if I wanted it to stop doing that.
Pros: Connecting with Friends, Video Editing, Music & Movies, shopping

What's great about it: Vista is absolutely beautiful. The visuals are dazzling and lovely and the effects are definitely worth the cost. Good
What's not so great: There is something distinctly wrong with the explorer.exe file (for Windows Explorer). If that problem could be remedied then it'll be all good with me. I don't mind that some software doesn't run on Vista, that's because they are still behind. But the task bar disappearing every now and then, not being able to access files and what's not? Not Good.
