Excellent

I got this lens as part of the kit with my T2i. I used it once in a while until Speed week in Florida. I spent the day shooting the stock cars and using it at all zoom lenghts. The results were great, I could not be happier and the feel of plastic is a non-issue. This lens is a steal for the price.
Pros: light weight, quick to focus

Needed lens for long shots, outdoor, some action. Very easy to use - extremely intuitive - super fast focus/wonderful detail. Exceeds expecatations.
Pros: Super-sharp images, Fast auto-focus, better with flash / low light than imagined
Cons: a little bulky

Great value, don't like the AF

This is a great lens for the price! My ONLY problem with this lens is the AF is very slow, and yes I know it's not USM but it is SLOW. My EF-S 18-55 f/3.5-5.6 kit lens and EF 50 f/1.8 are much faster also without USM. Then there is the fact that the AF is also inaccurate req the use of manual focus. Overall the images produced by this lens are amazing for the price!!!
Pros: price
Cons: slow/ inaccurate af

Great Lens!

I recently became a Canon customer after switching from Nikon so I don't have an expert review on this lens but after using it for just a few days I know this lens is reliable. I've been testing the lens with all of the automatic settings so far and the photos look beautiful. I am yet to see what it can do when I play with the settings manually. The zoom and focus are very smooth; this is great for zooming during videos so it isn't choppy. This lens is a must-have for new photographers. I can't speak for experienced photographers but this lens is working great for me, a photographer of around two years.

I received this lens as a Christmas present for my photography work for web sites. I have used this lens a lot and it performs great. Images are very sharp, color representation is great and the zoom is fantastic. I do not particularly care for the image stabilization, but I am very very happy with this wonderful lens.
Pros: Super-sharp images, Superior build quality, Fast auto-focus, solid in hand
I would recommend this to a friend!

Good for landscapes, buildings

Good all-around general purpose lens, versatile enough for many situations. Relatively light weight. Good for a walk in the woods because it can capture a decent wide-angle landscape shot, yet still take a great close-up photo of an object along the trail, such as a flower. Limited zoom means it cannot get a close-up of distant wildlife, so if that's your target, you will need to consider a different lens. This lens works great for fitting buildings into the frame when standing close. I have taken some beautiful night shots of cityscapes with this lens using a tripod and long exposure.
Pros: lightweight, takes good photos at night, wide angle
