I did a lot of research and browsing before buying our first HD Flat Screen TV, and the LN46A550 didn't disappoint me.The picture sharpness, color rendition ,brightness, matte finish non-glare screen and features are comparable to a well known manufacturer whose 46 " models cost hundreds of dollars more. In fact, the LN46A550 has even more features than many higher priced competitor's models and represents an outstanding value. I did find, however, the sound output to be a bit disappointing, but I realized that only comparatively small speakers can be squeezed into the slim profile of this set ,so the purchase of a home theater set up would transform viewing this HDTV into a movie theater-like experience .

A lot of performance for the money

After a lot of comparison shopping, I purchased this model for my brightly lit family room with many windows. I thought the 6 and 7 series Samsungs had a more vivid picture in the stores, but I was worried about the reflective screens on those models. This TV has exceeded my expectations for day and night time viewing at home. The picture quality is excellent. The sound quality is decent once I adjusted the graphic equalizer, but I have it hooked up to a surround system anyway. The only reason I did not give a perfect score was that the remote is not universal. It would be perfect if it operated my cable box, because I like the large buttons, layout, and illumination. Overall, I am very happy with this purchase.

A good HDTV for the price. Good picture, you must set the equalizer to get decent sound, but I have one problem with it. The Picture In Picture only allows you to view analog TV channels, NO Digital channels. It wont let you choose which input to use as a PIP. What are we going to do in February when analog TV is no longer around? The PIP wont even work !!!! Other than that, the TV is a good buy.

bad sound

This is a nice TV, however, the sound quality equals that of an AM radio. It is just terrible. I have tried adjusting the equalizer settings but it still sounds bad to the point where it is actually annoying. The remote control is nice but very basic. You can't use it to control any other devices that you may have. The picture quality is great though and if you are running the audio through a receiver, then is is a nice set. If you plan on using the TV speakers, don't waste your money.

After months of searching and viewing many different tvs, we deceided on the samsung ln46a550, Price was good and tv quality was very good. We have had this tv for 8 months and no problems so far. The remote has large buttons and is very user friendly. The only drawback is the speakers for a tv of this quality, but you can adjust the settings and it helps. We use a different sound system, so the sound quality is no concern. We also purchased a samsumg ln37a550 for our bedroom and it is a fine set so far. Time will tell if samsung is the best tv for the average user.

Within 2 years of buying this t.v. it has broken twice already. The first time a red line appeared down the entire t.v. Samsung replaced the whole t.v. due to it being the panel, and the company that fixed it scratched it all up. After Samsung sent me a new t.v., this one has broke in less than a year again..now i have red "shadowing" throughout the entire t.v. I am still paying off the t.v., and it keeps breaking. I would buy a Sony if I could go back and do it again.

I had been researching 40"+ LCD TV's for a few months now and was debating between this and a Sony. The Samsung had higher reviews and was lower in price. After comparing them side-by-side in the store I decided the Samsung was it. It was very easy to setup. I definitely recommend HDMI cable(s), but do your research and don't overpay. The "touch of color" is not a backlight, it's just part of the frame molding so don't expect lighting. The remote does not have the ability to learn other remotes, so that was a little disappointing. I am intrigued by the USB wireless capability it has. You can stream video to it from your network as well as other cool stuff. Overall, this TV is excellent and looks crystal clear at any angle in our living room. High Def TV and Blu-ray DVD's look awesome! Would definitely buy it again!

Yes, tin can audio is how I would describe the sound quality. Stunningly poor. The only option is to send the sound to an amplifier and external speakers. If you have that setup, then this would be an ok purchase.
Also, the PIP feature is very hard to find and worthless. You can only use ANALOG tv signals for the second screen. I have no idea why you can't use the DIGITAL signals for the PIP second screen. My older samsung (LNS4092) sounds better and has more PIP features.
