soap dispenser inlet may be prone to mold
on September 28, 2014

We are pretty happy with our new washer, but it does have a few issues. We don't like the fact that water inlet at the top of the soap dispenser unit never dries out and drips water. We are afraid that this will be an invitation to mold. We also don't like having to empty the water out of the soap dispenser after each use. Other than that, it is a pretty slick machine.
Pros: Style/Design
I would recommend this to a friend!

Should my washer and dryer make me want to cry??

When it was time to replace my top loader Kennore washer/dryer after 15 years, I was excited at the idea of this combo. Wrong! The mildew smell I had heard of but the smell of sulphur on the first load every time??? My clothes are supposed to be clean after that??? The terrible dryer design that wraps up and breaks off the waist ties in every pair of pants? i have to few ash numerous times. Where is the supposed saving? What does this offer me but frustration, stench, time and more cost? Only about 1 1/2 years with these and I am crying for a replacement. I have 4 kids - I can't afford to have a poor experience in the laundry room!

Easy to use

Bought this on a recommendation, not entirely happy with its performance. Love the signal that the cycle is complete. Does the final rinse in very HOT water (per LG, to rinse out all the detergent), but I do NOT want my cold wash clothes rinsed in hot water-wears out and fades them. No option to eliminate that rinse Loud noise when it pulls water from the pipes.
Pros: easy to use

Poor quality

Mold forms inside the door ring because the water does not drain well. It stinks all the time, and I have to keep the door and soap dispenser door open all the time or it just gets worse. This is tough because my laundry "room" is a hallway. We started noticing a very loud noise on the spin cycle, come to find out it is the bearings and of course they are not covered under warranty. Online research indicates the bearing should last about 10 years, so LG should be standing by their product and covering the replacement of this for me. I have only had the machine for 5 1/2 years and now have a costly repair that they will not cover. NOT at all happy with this product and will NOT buy from LG again.

features don't have value to quality ratio

There are a lot of features to this machine, unfortunately, the overall performance is very poor. After months of back and forth with the customer service reps and multiple visits with technicians concerning the washer leaking significant amounts of water, it was determined that we were using to much soap. This was a common problem and should have been discussed early on, not 6 months down the road and hours of wasted time. (the final analysis was to use one table spoon of soap, and yes, thats the HE soap)
The child lock feature does not lock out the power button. Once your children hit the power button, there's no going back. You need to complete a full cycle again because you have no idea what part of the cycle they turned it off in. AND, because the cleaning is so poor, you almost always have to run a prewash along with one - two extra rinse cycles to get basic loads clean.
The turbo feature is quick, but gets your clothes no cleaner than dunking them in your sink and ringing the water out of them.
If you have children, sweat, or get the least bit of dirt on your clothes, these machines are not for you. They will come out still dirty and still smelly. If you work behind a desk and never go outside, it would be sufficient. Hope this helps all the working families that still remain.
