Does it all ... and well!

I use this printer for a home office. Speed is great, print quality is excellent! This printer replaced an OfficeJet K80 and is much better, in every way. Only drawback is that the printer cartridges run out incredibly fast - even the XL versions don't seem to last very long.

Looks Good - Feature Packed

I just purchased the J6480. I am using it at home for my school teacher wife and high school kids. It’s overkill for them but I got a pretty good deal and it is a feature packed device. B&W printing, copying and scanning are high on our needs. Color printing and faxing are not that critical but very nice to have. I’m not looking for exceptional print quality. I just want a device that is going to hold up for the next 3 – 5 years. I am running Vista Home Premium.
So far I am impressed with the device. It looks great and seems to be laid out very nicely. It’s kind of noisy but so is the rest of my house.
Set up went smooth. I took my time and followed the directions to the letter. I did not rush it or take any type of short cut. I have connected the printer to my internal home network switch and have all my kids PC’s connected to it via IP (my house is wired). That was fairly easy to do too.
It’s nice to be able to access the printer web based configuration page from any PC in the house.
This is the 3rd HP printer I have purchased over the past 10 years with each increasing in features and quality. I’ve been happy with them except for toner costs. . I hope toner cost does not put me in the poor house.

The J6480 gets top rating!

Although this printer goes through more ink than I would llike, I would have to say its versatility and quality more than out weights this inconvenience. I set it up for WIFI use and I love the freedom of not being tied down to cables. As a fax and scanner, it has worked beautifully and it produces nice crisp photos. It is really a good, all-around all-in-one printer.

Does the Job

Not the smallest, not the fastest and certainly not the quietest. But even at $150 it does everything well. Set up with two XP laptops over a Linksys router with WPA security was a breeze. Box open to scanning and printing wirelessly was about 45 minutes. No problems just dealing with all the packaging and the automated portions of the install took a little longer than I expected, but again no problems. Print quality is as advertised complete with double-sided option. It adds to footprint, but worth it in my opinion. Scanning is what I really got this machine for and it did not disappoint. File size tends to be big. I don't know what the machines at my office do to get scanned docs down to less than 100kb, but I haven't seen this happen on any other scanners either so I don't knock this one for its large file sizes. Only real surprise was that it was pretty noisy. My wife complained from the next room over. I know inkjets tend to be noisy, but even the scanning was loud.
Only 4 stars because it only did what I expected it to. No good surprises, but no bad ones either and that is definitely better than average in the electronics world.

Having had this all-in-one in operation for over a month now I have to say it's great. It has surpassed my expectations. I have used it with all three of my computers, two wirelessly, without a hitch. My luck with HP printers has been great.

Download the Software

Had major problems with the installation. As other reviewers have stated I ended up having to download the installation software from HP's website. On a fast computer total installation time is about 20 minutes, so be patient. I loaded the software on my PC and my laptop...laptop installation was a breeze. Love the print quality and all of the features. One thing to remember...the printer needs to be "on" at all times! When the printer is off there is no wireless connection therefor the computer cannot communicate with the printer. The printer goes into a power save mode but maintains wireless connectivity. This may be something everyone else is aware of but this being my first experience with wireless I just didn't think about it at first. I needed fax capability so this is why I went with this unit. This all in one replaces a HP flat bed scanner and a HP photo quality printer. Once you get past the installation you will love this printer!

i recently bought this printer just because of it's wireles capabilities and the name HP on it. but low and behold it was everything i thought it would be and more. besides the fact that i love that it's wireless i like the 35 page document feeder and the fact that it does everything streamlined and makes working with a printer way less of a hassle. this is a wonderfull printer and would recommend it to anyone that needs an all in one.

Documentation leaves a lot to be desired...

I love the printer but I have not been able to get it to print wirelessly. I ended up connecting it to my router via cat 5 Ethernet cable... and I did not read how to set it up because there is nothing in the documentation on how to do this... I just figured it out... there is also very little about how to set up the printer to print wirelessly. If you are a novice, do not expect to print though your router wired or wireless without calling their tech line. I am happy with the printer but it could have been 5 stars with a good "complete" instruction manual.
