This player plays DVDs and everything else it supports just fine and will output to HDMI, with a decent video DAC if you need to use the analog video output. It's lasted many years and still. My only gripes with this machine are that sometimes the player will lock up when you eject the disc, causing the tray eject motor to continue running with the tray fully extended, possibly wrecking the motor. It's a miracle that the disc mechanism hasn't broken yet, the player has locked up about 3 times in it's life. Sometimes it just locks up when you play a scratched disc, but even my computer does this, so it's not specific to this machine. Additionally, the HDMI audio output for PCM sound is too loud, meaning normally undistorted recordings that are mastered loud become distorted, requiring you to go into the player settings and turn down the volume to +15 (standard is +20) to fix the distortion for every disc with the distortion issue. Overall, if you find a good deal for this player (because it's discontinued), it might be worth picking up if you just wanna play DVDs.
Pros: plays dvd/svcd/vcd/cd/media disc, supports divx and xvid, has hdmi out, good analog video output
Cons: disc tray can get stuck while fully ejected, the audio output over hdmi can get distorted

I purchased thei DVD player,once I got a chance to review it there is no need to go looking for a nother,this is top notch,I love it because of the HDMI cable,the better the player the better the picture...try your own and check it out.
Pros: exellent machingplays wonderfullyeasy to use

Great Divix player W/upscale & USB

I bought a re furbished DVP5990/F7 had it for about a week so far it plays almost every type of rip I got on my Divix DVD's , great picture , my only complaint is they didn't include a optical audio in , only a coaxial audio , which I have yet to purchase a coaxial cable to test out the digital audio , the USB port is great , it can be hooked up to an external HD , must be FAT 32 or work arounds are needed and can be located online

One good feature and several bad ones

I got this DVD player to go with a Phillips TV I own. The good feature is that combination switches the TV automatically to the DVD's input when you play a DVD. The bad features are multiples readings of no disk present when a DVD is in the player. It is really touchy at reading disks. Very so so performance when you do get it to read a disk. I have since replaced this player with a different player of a different brand. I would NOT recommend this player.
Pros: switches phillips tv input automatically
Cons: a bad dvd player which does not read disks properl
