I have wanted a Roomba iRobot for 6 years. I think the price prevented me from just going out and getting one. We decided to purchase the 560 model. We have 2300 sq. feet of hard wood and tile in bathrooms. (No carpet, but a few throw rugs). I use it about 5 days/week and love that I can finally stay on top of the dust and dirt. Before owning a Roomba, I was not movtivated to keep up with my floors. After owning the Roomba for 2 months now, I can say I am still excited about what it does for my house and saving my back from strain. I do NOT mind at all the fact that it is good to open the bin and clean it and the brushes after each use. It takes about 3-4 minutes to empty and clean brushes, but I think that is waaay better than sweeping the house myself for 45 min. I am so thankful for the virtual walls to keep Roomba in the areas I designate. I have Roomba clean half the house at a time. Also, another great tip is we went ahead and bought an extra pack of filters and I rinse out my used filter and while it is drying I take out a new filter and insert it. Then next time, I take out the previously rinsed (but dry) filter and use it. The filters rinse out great. I am just so happy with this robot. I highly recommend it. The only warning I would give is to take up your electrical cords lying on the floor and don't let Roomba get tangled in them. It is also so cool that it docks itself and can even be scheduled to start on it's own.
Pros: Easy To Empty, Easy To Use, Efficient, Lightweight, Powerful/Good Suction

LOVE Roomba! Some possible upgrades...?

With two dogs, one cat, and two humans (my wife and I) who don't take our shoes off... I can't imagine how filthy our place would be without Roomba! We use it daily; sometimes two to three times in one day! Roomba does an amazing job of capturing all the animal fur and hair. I don't know of any better way to clean fur out of carpet and door mats than to let Roomba do it! The few things that I would like to see improved are: - The fact that after daily use, the front plastic becomes scratched and scuffed so badly that Roomba has a difficult time sensing walls and objects. I think a rubberized 'lip' or 'brow' along top front edge would remedy this quite well! (It appears that the newer model may have this feature.) - Again the the pet fur. Roomba does a great job getting fur on ground and against walls, but A LOT ends up on top of the trim (where trim meets wall, caulk-line) This space also collects a ton of dust. It would be really great if Roomba could clean this bit too! Perhaps an optional (detachable) side brush on top of the unit/housing that could pull dust, fur, and debris off of trim and onto floor? I know not all trim is same height, but should be able to come up with a design that would work for most situations, I would think! That's about it! Keep them coming and I'll keep buying them! ....this one's going on 3 years old and still running pretty well! (I do perform maintenance after almost every use though) Thanks!
Pros: Easy To Empty, Easy To Use, Great with pet hair, I don't have to vacuum, Powerful/Good Suction, Timer
Cons: Could be quieter, Must clean frequently, Noisy, Walls scratch bumper

6 months and a problem

3 x a week user and it was cleaned each time. 6 months and it is slowly coming to an end. It has been slowly failing each time it has ran for the last 4-5 times until it just won't run more than 2 minutes. I have in the service call but this robot only covers a small townhouse with furniture. Very limited floor space. It runs a total of about 1.5 hours per week.
Pros: Easy To Empty, Easy To Use
Cons: Breaks Easy, Clogs Easily

My husband brought our little irobot home because he thought it would help in our daily cleaning routine. It does work quite well, but in our house with 3 kids and 2 dogs it gets filled up quickly. We have it set to clean every night while we are sleeping as it can be a little loud, but its downstairs so no one hears it. We have both hardwood floors, ceramic tile and rugs and this guy gets to it all. We are thinking on getting one for upstairs we are so pleased with this product, definitely worth the buy!!!
Pros: Easy To Empty, Easy To Use, Efficient, Lightweight
Cons: Noisy

Brush head failure

I have had my Roomba for three years. Over all I like it and it has done a good job. The biggest item I have complainants about is the life of the brushes and the brush heads poor design. These two items are the week link in the Roomba design. the problem is that pet hire and dirt get into the gear box and cause the gears to strip out and the hole where the brush attaches to enlarge so the the gears do not mesh properly. When this happens the end of the brush will be rounded off and be come unusable. If you have pets then expect the brush head to last about three months. The new brush heads are green in color and have had the shortest life. The red color heads I have been able to keep alive for about a year with cleaning the gear box monthly.
Cons: Poor Design
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

An Expensive, Disposable Piece of Junk

My wife bought our Roomba less than 10 months ago, and it is no longer working. Because it was a re-manufactured unit, it only had a 90 day warranty. Over the phone, I was told that it cannot be repaired. I was offered a new unit for purchase, and I have agreed only because this was the only option given to me. Obviously, it is extremely frustrating to have to pay to replace a virtually new product. When I buy a new appliance, I expect that it will last longer than 10 months without breaking down. I also expect that if it does break down, that the company will, at a minimum, repair the product at a reasonable cost, not tell me to throw it out and buy a new one. I have also been told that iRobot does not offer extended warranties on its products. It is apparent that iRobot are in the business of selling a costly, yet essentially disposable product, that will break down soon after the warranty period, and yet cannot be repaired. This is proven by the fact that they won't offer an extended warranty. I feel like I have been ripped off.

Poor Lonely Upright!

Found a 560 at a thrift store with a bag of spare parts (Cleaning head & extra brushes). After going through and cleaning everything and charging up the battery I thought the worst I could sell it for parts....It work amazingly! Other than a larger bin (I plan on purchasing a Aero Vac Bin) I have no complaints. The brushes do require cleaning (I have pets and a wife with long hair) but other than cleaning it after every use, it's perfect!
Pros: Easy To Empty, Easy To Use, Efficient
Cons: Noisy

I love the Roomba. It cleans the living room and kitchen at night, and I can't tell you how little dust I now have on my furniture. It does exactly what I thought it would do, but better. It is like a pet. I think newer models have a remote control, for spot cleaning. I wish I had this, but am still very happy. Also think voice recognition would be cool. Giving the robot some commands for off schedule cleaning would add to the product. Either way, this is a must have for anyone in a condo. It will make your life better, and keep your house cleaner. It is worth every penny.
Pros: Easy To Empty, Easy To Use, Efficient, Makes life better, Powerful/Good Suction
Cons: No remote control, No voice recognition
