Replacement
on November 24, 2010

I have been using my 560 every other day for just over a year now and it is being replaced. The sensor for the virtual walls and home dock quit working along with the brushes. As it is just out of warranty it will cost me an additional amount to get a replacement. It does a good job of cleaning but it gets tedious having to clean it every 3-4 days. If this one only lasts a year I will not replace it.
Pros: Easy To Empty, Lightweight, Pet Hair, Powerful/Good Suction
Cons: Breaks Easy, Noisy
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

Nice Little Robot, But....

I have the 560 and have been using it for 3 weeks. Nice , easy to use, carefree, effective...until you have to clean it. The design allows the axles/shafts that attach the brushes to the body to allow hair to wrap around them and stop the cleaning. The robot announces that the brushes are clogged and need to be cleaned and it stops where it's at until you clean it.(yes, it talks and tells you what is wrong) Cleaning requires removal of brush and rubber brush from the underside of the robot. The plastic bushings must slide off the axles (4) to unwrap the hair that gets wrapped so tightly around them that the robot stops to avoid damaging itself. Then reassembled. This is a 5 min. procedure. If a carpet or throw rug is left down during cleaning the clogs are more frequent. It will clean your carpets but be aware that clogging may very well occur. (I only have one 8x10 low pile) Also, on carpets if there are any black colored spots the robot will either stop and go around them or sometimes roll partially onto them and stop. I assume this is a feature to prevent the robot from rolling down stairs and damaging itself. On my tile floors all is well. It works very well and my 560 roams the entire 1500 sq. ft. house and never gets stuck. Even into the closets.Carpets are the main problem. I have one small long haired dog. I run the robot every other day to pick up hair. I was amazed at how much hair, dirt and dust it picks up every other day. After roaming the house for an hour it goes back to the charger, parks itself, announces its done and begins charging. Very cool. It is mandatory to clean and disassemble the brushes after every use due to hair wrapped around the axles and the wheel. I am very pleased with my purchase and the 5-10 mins. every other day spent cleaning the robot is worth the convenience overall. My 560 can be programmed to start at the day and time you want and parks itself when done. I don't use it since there is a small amount of noise on my ceramic tile floors from the motor. I just hit the start button when I leave the house and when I return it's clean. My dog totally ignores it even though he hates the vacuum.
Pros: Cleans Great, Easy To Use, Efficient
Cons: Carpet clogs up brushes q

The Love Affair Lasted 8 Months

Oh how I love my Roomba Mo! True he has to be cleaned every single time I use him, but to be fair we have 2 long haired 65 pound dogs, 2 cats and 2 kids. Sadly after 8 months we'd noticed a gradual decline in performance and this week the motor started whining and the brushes stopped turning. So! Now I get to see how my warranty and iRobot customer service rate.
Pros: Easy To Use, Efficient, Entertaining, Lightweight
Cons: Short lifespan with pets

Best Invention ever! Worth every penny!

I always wanted to buy one but always had second thoughts, I wanted the 562 pet series but when the 560 became available in a retail store, I just went and bought one for my birthday. And it is one of the best investment I ever did. My family just watched and followed it around the house whiled it cleaned the first time. It is just so amazing how someone can invent something that can make life a little easier. We have dogs that come in and out. I always have to vacuum at least 2x a week. Now, thanks to iRobot Roomba I scheduled it to vacuum 4x a week the same time as my alarm clock and by the time I go to work, it's already done. It cleans about 1 1/2 hour. If it gets stuck (it always get's stuck to a thick & heavy rug by the entry way), it talks and asked to be moved. It goes over and cleans kitchen and bathroom rugs. It returns by itself to the charging station. I'm so thankful for the invention, now I have more time to do something else and our house seems to be immaculately clean all the time.
Pros: Easy To Empty, Easy To Use, Powerful/Good Suction

Works great, high $$ to maintain

I like the unit. When the cycle is complete the floor has nothing on it. No debris at all. That is good. But the prep work to get a room ready to be cleaned w/Roomba is complicated. Sometimes I think I could have just vacuumed. Also, I have had to replace the battery and the cleaning head module post warranty. Just know that you will end up spending as much on maintenance and parts as the unit over roughly 3 years.
Pros: Powerful/Good Suction
Cons: Noisy, Unreliable

Life changer; never again without it.

I LOVE my robot. I got a Roomba 560 9 months ago and I used it daily ever since, and so my floors are cleaner than ever. I like to have a tidy house, but I just don't have the time. Since the robot cleans everyday, even if it misses a spot once, it doesn't matter. The amount of dust in the house has reduced considerably, and the floors look really good. Even with a toddler at home! Some tricks for first users: when you use it for the first time, it is better to vaccum the floors first. But thereafter, if you use it often, you won't need to vaccum again; well, occasionally if there is a huge mess! Also, at first you may need to observe the robot a little bit, to figure out what are the difficult spots; I have put the virtual barriers on those, and now the robot runs while I am at work and it is in its almost always in its base. Of course, if you use it daily as I do, you need to empty bin everyday for an efficient use (it takes, literally, 15 seconds). And weekly, I performed a whole 5 min cleaning of my robot: I use compressed air and it really helps keeping it great. Other than that, the other routine that I have is just quickly scanning the room to make sure my child didn't leave a baloon, a napkin, or other obstacles. But, I have to say, the robot has "eaten" already a beaded collar, coins, and several other objects, and they all came intact :). Don't think more about it and get one! It is a life changer!

Not so happy anymore

The vacuum worked good for a few months. I guess the early on advertising for parts and repair should have been the hint. Now the vacuum has lost the ability to sense where it is, runs out of battery within a few minutes and is unable to negotiate a corner. It just sits there stuck. It is a nice concept, but I am all done with Roomba!!!!!
Pros: When it was working it wa
Cons: Unreliable

Stella rocks!

Okay, first I have to say that I was certain I would be disappointed so I made sure I could return it. But after the first week, I was convinced this is a wonderful machine. I hate doing floors, especially since I have to sweep before I can mop. Now, I just have Stella go through the room and then I mop while she does the next room. If you can't have a maid, a Roomba is the next best thing! I wanted to name it Romeo (because there's nothing more romantic than a man who cleans!), but for some inexplicable reason, my kids named her Stella and it stuck. Now I'm lobbying for the outdoor model. If she could just fold laundry...
