Turned my wife into a believer!

I bought a Roomba for my wife for Christmas. She hates robots and at first was strongly opposed to even taking it out of the box. I suggested we try it for a week, and if she didn't like it, we could return it. I set it up to clean weekdays during the kids' nap. Within 2 days, she already started to admit that she liked it. By the 3rd day, I caught her on the irobot website looking at the Scooba. We are now in the process of obtaining one of those as well. My wife is a little neurotic when it comes to cleanliness, and this does the job and doesn't require any effort on her part to get the carpet and wood floors to always be clean. This is by far one of the most convenient and life enhancing things we have purchased in some time. We now have a dyson that sits in the closet on only gets pulled out occassionally to do the stairs. If the roomba could do that, the dyson would go up on craigslist. Another interesting thing is that my wife's parents visited a month or so after we got it. Within two days, my father in law was shopping around for one. My wife's best friend has told her husband that he should plan on her a Roomba for Mother's Day. We love it, and everyone we know who comes in contact with Mr. Roomba loves him as well. Another item to note is that thing cleans well. Although it runs 6 days out of the week, it is always full of dust and dirt. And we thought the Dyson did wonders. I am amazed when I empty it daily at the amount of dust it finds. And it cleans in places you could never get a vacuum.

A totally new Roomba

Wow, I am totally amazed to hoe iRobot did this! I could not believe how much more advanced they made this Roomba, it seems so much more smart and reliable. I can't believe the technology they put into this, all of the enhancments and improvments. I am so happy iRobot did this, I am a very satisfied costumer! I would give it 4 and a half stars if I could!

If there were a 6-star option, I would give it. Let me break this down...it cleans while you do other things. Once more, to underscore: IT CLEANS WHILE YOU DO OTHER THINGS. I don't care if it's noisy, (it's a vacuum!). I knew it didn't do steps when I bought it, so I surely can't hold that against it. I have no problem emptying its bin, after all I DIDN'T HAVE TO EXERT ANY ENERGY FILLING IT!!!!! Clearly, I feel very strongly and very protective of my iRobot, fondly named Robusticus. (Even my 3 year old calls him by name...yes, it's a him.) I don't have a negative thing to say because my 500 series iRobot takes what used to be a tedius job that I couldn't keep up with as a working mother with toddlers, two dogs, a cat and a messy husband and has made it virtually EFFORTLESS. Effortless, I tell you. I have it programmed to clean 3x/week, in the early morning WHILE I SLEEP!!!!! No more dust bunnies. No more dog hair on my area rugs (which it navigates on, over and around with ease). And no more lugging out the big MANUAL vacuum to tidy up. I've been a long-time user, having owned a previous iRobot Scheduler...but these 500-series improvements kick the whole game up a notch. I am BEYOND thrilled with the product and completely impressed with the new design features. My 560 is one of the best purchases I've ever made. I never asked much from a vacuum. With Robusticus, I don't have to ask for anything at all...it delivers as promised. (I really hope I'm not the only one this passionate about my iRobot...I know there are others out there. There has to be...this product is just too fabulous. In my estimation, this company is the Apple/Mac of the Robot world and I, for one, can't wait to see what they innovate next.)

Long haired dogs are its nemesis

I have had my Roomba 560 for nearly a month and my house is much cleaner than before HAL came into our lives. I find myself just standing there watching HAL clean. We have two dogs, a samoyed and a keeshond, both long-haired dogs, and they shed year round. Without frequent vacuuming, our house looks like an angora sweater exploded in it. With the Roomba, we clean 2-3 times a week. However, the dog's long hair usually causes HAL to stop in mid-cleaning: either the brushes are clogged with hair, or the hair gets into the front swivel wheel causing it to lock up. Either way, I hear the sad error tones, causing me to come running to its rescue. I now laugh at the recommendation that the brushes be cleaned once every three cleanings--I usually have to clean them three times per cleaning. Don't get me wrong-I think my Roomba is great and I have the same troubles with the brushes on my much more expensive Dyson vacuum cleaner (and that has the additional problem of me having to vacuum!). I'll keep on using HAL to keep my house clean, but I have not yet gotten to the point where I believe that it can clean the rooms without me being around.

I love my Roomba

I have had my Roomba for almost two years. I have five cats in my house and they shed a LOT. My Roomba is a lifesaver. I run it every morning and only get my vacuum out about once every two weeks. The dust bin is full every day; it takes me a few minutes to empty it and clean the brushes but it is so worth it. I can wear black slacks in my house again. Early on I had a problem with it stopping during cleaning, called customer service, and was immediately told what the problem was; I was not cleaning the little yellow sprockets. I started doing that and have not had the problem again. They were so helpful. I never write reviews but this product is a real blessing. I bought Roombas for all four of my grown children for Christmas and they love them, too. I have recommended them to everyone I know.
Pros: Easy To Empty, Easy To Use, Efficient, Lightweight, Powerful/Good Suction

Beyond excellence

I have had Benson for about a year now. He cleans wonderfully and it is a pleasure to come home after work every day to clean floors. I am now taking care of a friend's cat for a few weeks and Benson has proved himself indispensable in keeping the cat hair and stray cat litter under control. Benson has no problem on my hardwood floors, area rugs (with tassels) and tiled floors. I wouldn't ever want to be without him.

Easy on the bad back and hands. It is easier to pick up a few things for more coverage than to use the heavier vacuum. Louder that I would like but quieter than a regular vacuum. I like that I can take it apart and resolve problems. I don't have to pay someone else to resolve a problem.

Our Second Roomba

We've had a 400 series Discovery Roomba since 2005. We still have it and use it but with two dogs and a cat we wanted one with scheduling and better hair pick up. We clean one room with short pile carpet and lots of obstacles and another room with hardwood floors. Our new 560 with the AeroVac bin and scheduling does the trick. I've noticed much improved performance over our old one: Untangles itself from cords - hasn't pulled anything off the tables. Doesn't eat and get stopped on the fringe on throw rugs. Steps that the Discovery would occasionally run off aren't a problem. Almost all the hair gets pulled into the bin with very little left on the brush. It spends much less time figuring out how to get out from under a small chair. The one thing that's not as good is the charging station. It's much smaller and lighter and gets pulled backwards when the Roomba leaves to clean. A piece of double sided tape solved the problem. Still, it would have been nice to be at least as good as the previous version. All in all I'm very happy with the improvements in the Roomba and won't hesitate to buy another.
