I really wanted to love this camera but...

I bought this camera with high expectations based on Sony quality, photos I'd seen online that were taken using this camera, reviews, and my own experience with Sony cameras. This camera replaced a DSC-H4 that finally gave up and I also have a Sony A65 dslr. I have been sorely disappointed. The camera takes forever to focus, IF it can find what you're trying to focus on even in center spot mode. The image stabilization is pretty much non-existent. I bought it to carry when my dslr was too big, but with this I also have to carry a tripod that I don't need with my dslr. The Auto modes are useless, colors are washed out and it takes f-o-r-e-v-e-r to write to the card - and I use Class 10 UHS 1 cards. I do a lot of bird shots and I'd better catch it with the first shot because by the time the camera is ready for a second shot, the bird is long gone. With my a65 I can get 5-8 shots as the bird goes overhead and all will be in focus, with this camera I'll get one and I'm lucky if its in focus.
The manual focus and settings work well, but I'm not quick enough to capture birds in flight in manual mode, that's why I buy one with AF. The Zeiss lens is sharp, once the camera focuses. As long as you're not trying to catch moving objects and you either don't zoom or use a tripod, it's a decent camera. But I have another bridge camera I paid 1/3 as much for that focuses and writes faster with a 42x zoom that takes pictures as good or better as this one.

Great Camera

My trusty old DSC H1 stopped working after 8 years. I had taken over 28,000 pictures with it. I bought the DSC HX300 and I am extremely satisfied with it. What a lens. Easy to use and I am having a great time taking pictures. Highly recommend this camera to anyone. Better than my DSLR. You don't have to change lenses to go from close into faraway shots. Rest in peace DSC H1.

Great camera

I purchased this camera before going on an overseas trip. I was limited to the amount of luggage to take and wanted a camera with a high capacity optical zoom lens. This camera exceeded my expectations. I was able to take excellent long range photos. I found the auto settings worked in most of the settings, without having to make manual settings.

I love my new Sony Cyber-Shot HX300/B. I am still using the auto shooting and getting great pictures...regular and zoom. It is so easy to use! I'm so glad that I saved up and got this camera. It is wonderful...

Flash Stops Camera
on December 20, 2013

Upgraded to this camera for the zoom lens and multi shooting modes. I found that when using the flash, the camera has an 8 - 10 second lag during flash recharge were you are unable to take the next picture. Regardless of the positive features of the camera, you will miss many shots while waiting for the flash to recharge. I sent the camera in for repair after one month of use. It was returned with documentation that it met factory specs. I was told by customer service that it was actually a point and shoot camera and if I needed something to recharge faster I should have purchased a DSLR. Since I had already purchased the camera based on Sony Web site information. I am stuck with a camera that misses a lot of pictures I would have taken quickly with a flash that charges quickly.

Love It!

I bought this camera to replace my Canon. I looked at the Nikon DSLR that was around the same price, but the optical zoom just could not compare. I also looked at the Canon with a similar zoom. I have had this camera for about 4 months. I have been very pleased with my results. I first planned to use it to take my daughters sr. portraits, and now I have appointments to take portraits of 3 of her classmates. It has lots of great features and is very user friendly.

poor choice

This particular model is inferior to previous models, the biggest issue with this model is the White Balancing system, it gives a reddish tint and even when you enter the manual adjustment it doesn't make a proper correction. I find that every once in a while this happens with certain Sony models, so to make it simple if you want true crisp accurate colors, this is not the camera to purchase, the previous 2 models Hx200 and Hx100 are far superior to this model
