A very satisfactory purchase

This is my second flat screen TV. I wish that it had been my first. My only quibbles are that like most flat screens, a sound bar is really needed, and that it would be nice to have a third HDMI port. I guess that I can live without the port since I rarely use a DVD player anymore.
I would recommend this to a friend!

Great Picture with HD Programming. No pixeling/artifacts/ghosting or blurred picture while watching a live football game. Not a Smart TV but that is why we bought it for our bedroom. 2 HDMI inputs. Sound is acceptable. Not bad but not great.

Great picture and even though it is rated for 1080 most shows are not in that format. Wonderful that it shows the pixels on each channel.

Hi fdave, thank you for your comment, the native resolution for the TV is 1080, that means that the TV is ready to display a 1080 signal when an external device is outputting or sending the 1080 resolution , if the external device (cable box, Blu ray, etc) is outputting or sending a lower video resolution(720,480) the TV will display that signal.

when i bought this TV online, even though it was a Sony, i wasn't expecting such a great value, for such a low. price. i am very, very, very happy with my purchase. the picture is GREAT, colors are true, sound is great, and the image is exceptionally clear, distortion free, and just perfect. if you see this model, JUST BUY IT. you'll be pleasantly surprised, and very happy. PERFECTION!

Better than I thought

Even though it's 720p hook up to 1080p Direct TV is awesome. Traded up to this TV from an older clunky 80 lbs. unit. We have a Samsung 40" TV in the living room & seems almost as good.

Great value for the price -- after adjustment

The bottom line: After some picture adjustments, I had an impressively lifelike and bright picture with this Sony, with good detail and contrast, and accurate skin tones. Of course, actual broadcast picture control plays a role here. The sound is decent for casual viewing. But connect the TV to better speakers if higher-fidelity is desired. It's a remarkably good set in the $200 price range.
However, for my particular set, the default, out-of-the-box picture settings were barely "fair" -- a bit disappointing, and distinctly lower quality than the 6-year-old Sony it was replacing.
So, before deciding to return the set, I set the TV to a known good broadcast source, and spent about five minutes or so tweaking the on-screen menu settings by eye, and the result was remarkably better. Adjustments I made included: contrast (too high -- dark areas were just holes without detail), color saturation (far too vivid and cartoon-like), color balance (overall, too pink -- most obvious in skin tones), and backlighting (too strong -- blacks were washing out) with minor additional adjustments to brightness and other settings. In making these many changes, I knew that if I didn't like them, there was a simple reset back to the defaults.
I recommend this good-looking TV as excellent value, with the potential for an impressively good picture. It has a good range of easy picture and sound adjustments, and flexibility and choices of connections on the back and side panel. And it looks good on a bedroom dresser without an overwhelming, bulky appearance.
