Amazing JBL Quality
on January 15, 2015

I got this blue tooth beauty for Christmas. I'm an audiophile to say the least and was very happy to see JBL on the side on the box!
The easiest to set up and AMAZING battery length! It goes on forever on one charge.
I stand it on its end most of the time to allow the seperate sub fill the room.
I would recommend this to a friend!

Bad for video or computer sound playback
on January 5, 2015

Using bluetooth connection, the sound feels like almost a second delayed, which can be rather annoying when using it for video sound playback, as the sound and picture will be out of sync.
If the unit detects the source sound is unchanged for a certain amount of time it shuts the speaker sound off, and when it feels the source sound changes again it takes about a second for the speaker sound to turn back on. There is no way to disable this (not even while the unit is being charged) and it leads to annoying clipping of the sound. So avoid using it for unvarying sounds.
I miss a feature to make it automatically turn on/off at the same time as it is being plugged in/out of power source, so that it can turn on along with the sound player. Being a portal unit does not mean it should always be used that way.
Have been thinking about modifying it myself by taking out the electronics and use it as a passive speaker, as the speaker units inside deliver a nice and smooth sound... when they actually play something.
Considering the price tag, I think it gives little value for the money.

Not what I expected from JBL

This was my second product as far as portable speakers go and it did not compare to what I had in the past. My first JBL speaker was for an iPod and the sound was amazing. So I went out on a limb and purchased this product, especially with the added bonus of being able to charge your device while listening (just like my first purchase) I thought I was winning all over again. I thought the sound was good until my daughter started playing her JBL Flipp, and from downstairs her speaker was drowning mine. I was too upset. I paid more plus my speaker was larger I couldn't understand how it was happening. Nonetheless I don't play my speaker in the house while she has hers on, it's aembarrassment. I am in search of a new speaker and just recently saw that the Charge II is now available. I am strongly considering this or maybe I should just go with the Flipp II since I know the quality of the Flipp I

Did i get a dud?

Just received a Charge for Christmas. Plugged it in overnight to charge, turned it on the next morning and it quickly synced with my Samsung Tab, but no sound would come out. I tried several times, turning off and on, then re-syncing, but nothing. I unplugged the unit and it immediately died. The battery is not holding a charge. Super disappointed!

Multiple Micro USB Cable Failures
on December 23, 2014

Our family has three JBL Charge speakers. Every one of them has the same fatal flaw--the micro USB cables that allow the speaker to charge have all failed.
As they begin to fail, they quit charging easily and you are left to manipulate the cord into an awkward position to keep charging. Later the cables just quit connecting altogether. The part literally came apart in my hand as I was plugging it in on one of my speakers.
If this happened once, I wouldn't worry about it, but when it happens with ALL THREE speakers we own, there is a serious problem.
I can't recommend this one.
