Can't believe how bad the design is.

Besides endless and serious problems with paper jams at both printer trays; this machine will not let you use the scanner or fax if any cartridge is out of ink- even though you don't need ink to do these things? yes it's true. And so of course you can't print if even one cartridge is empty.
I never would have bought it if I knew that.
I've never had both paper trays functioning at the same time. it seems if you use either one too much it starts jamming so you can't use it until about the time the other tray starts jamming. When I left my office last Friday, both trays were unusable after very light use.
Pros: fast print speed, Sharp Tones & Colors
Cons: Large Footprint, Heavy/Bulky, Difficult to use, High Ink Consumption, unreliable, paper (mis)handling
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

as usual the printer itself is reasonable but the inks are exepnsive and you cant print only black whenever any color inks are out.
Pros: Lightweight/Portable, durable, Easy Setup, easy to use, reliable
Cons: Large Footprint, High Ink Consumption

You Can't Go Wrong

I purchased this printer for it's networking capabilities. I was not dissappointed. The company walked me through every step of getting it started. I can't say enough about them. Also, I found the printer very user friendly to learn. I just sat down in front of it and started pressing the buttons. The menu was easy to understand. Most of the major functions I wanted have a button to press right out where you can find it. The embedded menus for the LCD display were very easy to figure out. Even the diagnostic menu was easy to understand. I am blown away with all the things this printer can do AND fast with stellar quality. I misloaded the bottom paper and the jam was easy to unplug. I just popped off the back and out came the misaligned paper. The ink is easy to change. Just open the cover and pop out the old and pop in the new. I have to say here that since I own a stand-alone dedicated fax machine, I do not use the fax on this MX700. So I cannot comment on that feature. I do love that I can print either color or just black with the touch of the button. The feed trays could hold a bit more paper but it suffices. I love the smooth feeding of paper and the two paper tray feeds. I love the patton that lifts to be able to copy a page in a book or magazine, etc. My old printer only took loose sheets. Considering that I don't need a lift-top scanner anymore, this design is relatively compact and good use of my space. I keep it on a dolly under my desk. Since most of the controls are visible from a birds eye view, it's working out well. All the hand-shaking with my computer has been smooth, too. I love my MX700. You can't have it back.
Pros: Compact Design, Lightweight/Portable, durable, Easy Setup, easy to use, fast print speed, reliable

Told black ink is low. Changed out half full cartridge. Tried to print black and white page and refused to print because red is getting low. Can't override this when color is not needed.
Pros: Easy Setup, easy to use, fast print speed
Cons: High Ink Consumption, unreliable
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

Good but not perfect

Good printer; fast, good quality print, many features, easy home network setup in WinXP Pro, everything works great EXCEPT the fax cuts into telephone calls sometimes and cuts them off. Only happens with certain calls (can't predict when), but it is VERY annoying and means I can't leave it online connected to the phone line and still use the phone reliably.
Pros: Compact Design, Lightweight/Portable, Easy Setup, easy to use, fast print speed, Low Ink Consumption, Sharp Tones & Colors
Cons: unreliable

This is a very good printer. It is fast and gives a nice crisp output, very sharp text and beautiful graphics. Photos are very nice with true color and sharp lines. On-screen maintenance box allows you to clean or adjust the printer in a flash.
Pros: durable, Easy Setup, easy to use, fast print speed, reliable, Sharp Tones & Colors
Cons: Large Footprint, Heavy/Bulky

ADF problems!!!
on June 21, 2010

Honestly, I enjoyed the printer and its features until a couple days past the warranty date... ADF stopped working. Based on some research I have done, this appears to be a common issue with this model. Also, the fact that you cannot even scan if you are out of ink does not make sense.
This is very disappointing specially when you are used to quality Canon products such as the i960.
Pros: Easy Setup, easy to use
Cons: unreliable, adf problems, can't scan with no ink
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.
