What I have always expected

The ease of ordering and to some degree the price including shipping a definite attraction vs. having to go out shopping for items. The price still leaves me tempted by offers of re-filled or
"remanufactured" products. I have yet to truly measure performance difference based on number of copies, shelf life or durability of cartridges in use. Overall it would seem that even with lower performance, the cheaper item does pay off. I would think that equipment manufacturers would prompt more buying of their products through lower priced consumables for them.
