Home Use - Multiple Computers

From previous reviews I decided to skip the CD software and download from the HP website. Purchased the printer a couple of days ago, and so far great. Wireless set up, which I was a little concerned about was flawless. Very EASY ... much eaiser than anticipated. Print quality is excellent. 6 ink cartridges should be a lot less expensive. Think about it ... CHEAP INK, WIRELESS NETWORKING, FAX, COPIES, SCANNER, BORDERLESS PHOTO PRINTING - DUPLEX PRINTING: what more could you want from a home printer ... Can't wait to try out all the other features. For the money - my research delivered nothing better. Looking forward to putting it thought is paces, and see if I'm disapointed. So far very pleased.

C7280 Excellent

HP C7280 is an EXCELLENT Printer, March 1, 2008 CD enclosed is bad-use the web site for software
Received this new HP C7280 3 days ago and absolutely love the print quality and features. The software load is absolutely embarrasing (VERY BAD). The CD that came with the printer failed on numerous attempts during the loading printer software sequence (after loading the drivers). I tried various "methods" including both USB and network all to no avail. Finally after 4 hrs, I tried the website software version (9.01) and it loaded the first time without issues. The CD disk that came with the printer was marked with version 9.02 which I assumed was more recent than the website's Jan update (9.01). BAD ASSUMPTION, so trash the disk and use the HP website for latest software.
I discovered several new options with the printer including "school paper print", which allows one button printing blank lined paper, graph paper, music paper-great for kids. Also the printer allows you to connect by either USB or network (ethernet or wireless). I have both connections installed (at the same time-and it works great!)since the USB is very fast (less than 2 sec to start print), whereas the network is slow (10sec to start print), it allows others on your home router to access the printer. Also the network option allows you access the printer directly via IP address and to change more options and get status, which is quicker that the HP software.
I followed the below recommendation of someone else in this forum and installed those software options listed EXCEPT I ended up adding OCR later. I ended up installing OCR as you need this in order to have the option to scan to a pdf file. Also, turn off your firewall and also your virus checker during the install.
Unzip the download and run. then... 1. Choose the custom (not the "easy" recommended) installation option. 2. Choose "NO" on the next pages which asks if you want to do auto updates. Anytime you select this for any product you now have another application running in the background all the time polling the internet. It will slow your computer down. 3. On the next screen select "custom". Don't be afraid, ever if you're not an "advance user" as it recommends. 4. You get a screen with a bunch of options to install. The first one you have to select, the drivers. Then uncheck "shop for HP" , "HP Updater" (memory & bandwidth eater), "customer participation program" (memory & bandwidith eater), "smart web printing" (you can try it, but more resident sw to eat up cpu and memory), "HP photosmart essentials" (not essential ) ,it'll save you 40MB not to install), "OCR" (unless you really use OCR or need to save to pdf.) OVERALL-I am very pleased with the purchase. .
The photo quality equals prints from any photo service and the text print is great also (not as good as a laser), but certainly good enough for home use (photos are much better than my deskjet 995 and the text print equals the deskjet in quality but is 2x the speed in fast draft, about the same in quality print mode). Many of the other complaints regarding slow response, high use of ink, bad print quality, jamming, just do not exist with my printer. I got the FAX to work, but it is touchy if one of your house phones has an answering machine (true for most of us), as the HP sometimes does not pickup the fax tone if the answer machine message is slow or noisy.
Also loaded OCR (so I could save to pdf) and tried it. Using the option to scan to MS word, it was simple and accurate. Much better than my old version that came with my other HP scanner. I converted 1 full page of text and had only one error and it kept the formatting. No need to buy another OCR program

Nice Printing Solution
on April 27, 2008

Wireless, automatic duplex printing, outstanding borderless 8-1/2 x 11 photo prints and high speed make this the most capable printer I have owned. I put the unit on my file cabinet so the slight shake doesn't bother me at all - it must be due to a heavy print head. Love the print cartridge access! A big Thank You to the folks who said to pitch the CD and install the updated software & drivers from the HP web site. Wireless install was a breeze after I found the printer's MAC address from the printer tools menu. Software note: My PC reports that the duplexer is not installed when I send an automatic two-sided print job but choose "print " anyway and it works perfectly despite the error screen. I was hoping to make borderless publications from MS Publisher but I haven't gotten it figured out yet.

I have purchased many scanners and printers from HP over the years (about 10 or more). This Multifunction one is the best I have every purchased from HP. I just purchased this one about 5 day ago and it is performing wonderful. It does everything I need and more. I really like the duplexer, double sided printing is great. Also the 50 page document feeder, makes it easy and less handling.

I just purchased the C7280. Prior to purchasing I read all of the reviews and because of them I almost didn't purchase this printer combo. A lot of the comments were negative. Not being a computer geek I was skeptical. I following the instructions that came with the printer to the letter and I didn't have any problems at all. The installation went so smooth and I tried every option available and all of the options worked without a hitch. Printing, copying, faxing, photo printing, and scanning were all above my expectations considering some of the reviews I read. Thanks HP for once again making a quality product.

FANTASTIC PRINTER
on November 30, 2008

This printer is beyond GREAT! It is very easy to set up and the wireless feature is awesome! I have a laptop computer as well as a desktop and they both are connected to this printer using the wireless feature and let me tell you, it is wonderful. No snarl of cable connections.
The double trays (regular paper and photo paper) is so nice. No messing around with changing paper or ink cartridges. The FAX feature is super. If you don't buy this printer, you are missing out on a really fantastic printer. I had an HP printer I bought several years ago and thought it was really good, but this one puts it to shame. I am thrilled that I bought this printer.
I did not find this printer noisy as some reviews have stated. The quality and speed of printing is really great. I am impressed. This is a great printer/copier/scanner/fax. A lot of bang for the buck!

Not happy

I bought one but took it back when I found out there was no way to print an envelope. A pretty good printer except it's no good if you can't print single envelopes. Taking the paper stack out and putting itback is way too much trouble. I'll wait untill HP gets it right or buy another brand.

I originally brought this product so I could print to one central location in house of 3 computers. Once I loaded it on all three HP seemed to take over control with the wireless acces from the printer. We had to take off all wireless computers and us a USB to again connect just one computer. Install time 20 plus minutes and too much HP control of computer. Did not perform wirelessly like I had hoped, did not solve my sharing of printers in home. Alot of frustration I t think it's a sofeware problem
