Great value and Preformance

I purchased this appliance last month and installed it a week ago, and so far it has been a welcome appliance to our just remodeled kitchen. It has worked out very wells far.

A very functional microwave

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I purchased this oven to replace my original SpaceMaker II purchased in 1986 (it was still working, just time to update). The new Spacemaker has more wattage plus a turntable and cooks plenty fast. The digital controls are straight forward and intuitive, the express cook buttons are handy for quick re-heats. Overall this oven is much lighter built than the '86 model, lots of plastic (including the door catches. The door seems quite flimsy but so far no problems. It will be interesting where this oven is 26 years. I also had planned to use the under counter mounting kit from the 86 model (it didn't fit). The 2012 mounting kit is also light weight, obviously to match the light weight microwave. The installation process with the new kit is ridiculous. The brackets are screwed directly to the oven requiring it to be perfectly supported and aligned with your cabinet mounting holes. With the 86 kit the brackets are installed then the oven is hung on the brackets and then the brackets tightened up and secured...... a much better engineered bracket. Now that the unit is mounted and in operation I am very pleased with the oven's performance.

This is a replacement for an old Spacemaker that died. Our only complaints have to do with the physical differences. The brackets from the old one do not work with the new one necessitating a complete new hanging installation. The bottom of the new one is all metal vs non slip feet on the old one. A countertop or shelf installation requires some material added to keep it from slipping. The last difference was the turntable, which is a positive change. From an operational standpoint, it's a great little microwave when space is an issue.

THE PERFECT BUILT-IN SIZE

I was delighted to find that this microwave was still being made with the same dimensions as my original so it was a snap to replace it . Thank-you GE for continuing to make a great product.

Amazing!

My GE Spacemaker II microwave oven was manufactured in 1986 (according to the information inside). As I write this review, it is October 7, 2016. I still use the microwave several times daily. it works at all settings as well today as it did when I first started using it. Hard to believe, but it's true. I wish all products were so reliable.
