Broken within 2 months of purchase

I bought my Breville kettle in December 2021. Almost immediately i noticed that the on button would occasionally switch off mid-boil, requiring you to press it again to complete the boil (once you'd actually noticed it had turned off). As time has gone on, this has only become more frequent and more frustrating in turn. To complete a boil, it now requires re-pressing the button 2-3 times consistently. Really annoying to have such a basic fault on what is a premium product of its kind on the market. Truly infuriating.
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

Really good but don’t last

I’m a fan of this brand and I thought this will be as strong and reliable as my coffee machine, toaster, oven and coffe grinder. But it was really disappointing to see that after almost 2 year the handle gave up and now the lid does not close anymore. I really love this kettle but it’s dissapointing to see that didn’t last long and apparently there is no way to repair it.

Loved it, Now Cautious

This was a gift in Nov. 2015. I loved it for years!
Then, starting in 2020, it won't stop boiling (happens 1-2x a month) and the stainless steel bottom has begun to corrode. There are metal flakes in the water - they're being caught by the filter when pouring, but I'm afraid some of the flakes may get through.
It was a great product until last year, but have to retire it. I thought the Breville name would last a lot longer than 5 years. :(

Won't stop boiling, lid pops open

We purchased the BKE595XL late Dec. 2017. More than a year ago the auto shutoff after boiling stopped working. I.e. five minutes after the water boils vigorously, the unit is still on with the water boiling. More recently, when opening the lid, the lid pops open rather than opening slowing. We have decided this appliance has become dangerous. I give two stars because it worked great for a couple years.

Lid pops open during boiling

Love the design and speed of boiling, but now the product became a fire danger. This is our second kettle with the same problem. After about 2 years of use, the plastic parts in the lid break and during boiling, the steam forces the lid to open and the boiling process never stops. If not watched, water evaporates and this becomes a fire hazard. We saw this problem with 2 kettles. Terrible design flaw.

Very Happy with Crystal Clear

I bought my Chrystal Clear kettle after inspecting all the kettles on display in a store. I decided not to buy online as there were reviews of other kettles that were too heavy, or not made of expected material, a plastic chrome coloured handle, not metal. It took ages summing up the features, colour, weight, the look until I found the Chrystal Clear under the counter! Clear marking of minimum, maximum, number of cups; not too heavy; easy switch on with indicator light; automatic turn off safety feature if switched on with no water; automatic turn off when boiling; attractive lid with glass circular panel; attractive overall with chrome, glass and gray. The kettle boils quickly and the spout pours well. Everthing I want in a kettle. Only negative comment, it is a bit tall to place on the sink divide without a bit of a tilt, but you get used to that. Very pleased with my purchase.

Worked well for 2 years then lid failed

I was satisfied with this kettle while it lasted. It boiled water quickly. This was my first glass kettle and I preferred the glass body to the plastic bodies of my previous kettles.
However, the lid failed after only 2 years of use. One of the two plastic hinges sheared from the base causing the lid opening mechanism not to work and the lid to pop open after boiling. Similar failure modes are reported in many other reviews above. No spare parts are available. I hope this review will encourage Breville to improve the design since designing a reliable hinge ought not to be a difficult thing to do.

Bought this kettle 2 years ago and it has been great in that it boils water really fast. Problem I have is that the hinge mechanism on the lid is garbage. After a year the one side of the hinge broke, not surprised as the post that holds this lid is all plastic and only about 1/8" wide, there is no way this item can last given that the lid is opened multiple times every week. This is one kettle I will never buy again. Designed to fail. 1 star from me
