I wouldn't buy any other tooth brush. I have always experienced gingivitis and the sonocare has keep things in check.

i have one recommendation...trying to keep the inside of the handle, which holds the brush, clean is a problem...the residue from brushing seeps into the inside handle compartment and is difficult to keep clean and smelling clean

Excellent over-all performance

I purchasd the Philips Sonicare Essence as a replacement for the Sonicare I have had for 11 years, and am still not dissappointed! The original Sonicare operated consistently up until the battery finally gave out. Overall, the Sonicare is the best electric/sonic tootbrush I've ever owned. The only thing I miss from my old Sonicare is the little alert that it gave per quadrant (every 30 seconds), which is not there with the Essence. Not a show stopper, but it did make it easier to brush and know you hit all four quads equally.
Pros: reliable, easy to use, consistent performance, effective
Cons: essence is missing the quad alert, replacement heads are exspensive
