I've been using Sonicare toothbrushes for many, many years, and I've never been disappointed. They really do a wonderful job of being a very important part of proper dental care and oral hygiene.
The one caveat I need to say is that it really is necessary to purchase a special electric current adapter directly from Philips for your Sonicare toothbrush if you plan to take it with you abroad, let's say, to Europe, for example. A general adapter you can get in a hardware or electronics store will NOT work with the toothbrush. I've lost two that way. But if you're going abroad for under two weeks, you won't need an adapte at all; your Sonicare toothbrush should do well without the recharging base if it's fully charged when you leave home.

I've been using Phillips Sonicare and my teeth have been significantly cleaner and brighter. The toothbrush has soft bristles that lasts because the sonic waves do all the cleaning. I don't need to scrub or actually brush. It gets to the plaques around the edge of the gum and between teeth. Awesome technology and product.

Originally, I would have given this product the highest rating possible. But I decided to upgrade (since they do get moldy) and bought the newer version. I have had it less than 2 years and it no longer holds a charge!!!! I can brush my teeth ONE TIME before it beeps it needs to be charged. That makes me so angry. If I would have kept the old version it would probably still be working!!! Other than that it has always gotten my teeth feeling very clean (for one use :)
Pros: keeps teeth clean
Cons: doesn't keep a charge
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

I would have no other toothbrush after having experienced the Sonic Toothbrush. It not only cleans your teeth, but it also helps prevent gum disease and makes for great dental checkups.
Pros: quick easy always ready
Cons: none
